Experimental measurements of Scholte waves from underwater explosions collected off the coast of Virginia Beach, VA in shallow water are presented. It is shown here that the dispersion of these explosion-generated Scholte waves traveling in the sandy seabed can be modeled using a power-law dependent shear wave speed profile and an empirical source model that determines the pressure time-series at 1 m from the source as a function of TNT-equivalent charge weight.

In this work, we investigate the dynamics of Scholte-Stoneley waves (SSWs) travelling along elastic metasurfaces, e.g. thin resonant structures embedding mechanical oscillators, placed at the interface between solid and fluid.

Physiological and pathological changes in tissues often cause changes in tissue mechanical properties, making tissue elastography an effective modality in medical imaging. Among the existing elastography methods, ultrasound elastography is of great interest due to the inherent advantages of ultrasound imaging technology, such as low cost, portability, safety, and wide availability. However, most current ultrasound elastography methods are based on the bulk shear wave; they can image deep tissues but cannot image superficial tissues.

Guided ultrasonic waves are used for the inspection of multilayered composite aerospace structures. Calculating the corresponding dispersion diagrams is challenging for thick-walled composites with more than 100 layers, such as in modern rocket booster pressure vessels. The Dispersion Calculator (DC) is an open source software for calculating such dispersion diagrams and mode shapes of guided waves.

Background: Pathological changes in tissues are often related to changes in tissue mechanical properties, making elastography an important tool for medical applications. Among the existing elastography methods, ultrasound elastography is of great interest due to the inherent advantages of ultrasound imaging technology, such as low cost, portability, safety, and wide availability. Although ultrasonic shear wave elastography, as a platform technology, can potentially quantify the elasticity of tissue at any depth, its current implementation cannot assess superficial tissue but can only image deep tissue.
