State-of-the-art climate models project a substantial decline in precipitation for the Mediterranean region in the future. Supporting this notion, several studies based on observed precipitation data spanning recent decades have suggested a decrease in Mediterranean precipitation, with some attributing a large fraction of this change to anthropogenic influences. Conversely, certain researchers have underlined that Mediterranean precipitation exhibits considerable spatiotemporal variability driven by atmospheric circulation patterns maintaining stationarity over the long term.

Background: As the global population ages, obesity among older adults has become an increasing public health concern. Lifestyle factors, including physical activity (PA) and sleep, play a critical role in obesity prevention. These behaviors occur within a 24-hour cycle, yet research on the impact of different PA patterns, trouble sleeping, and their combination on obesity in older adults remains limited.

In this work, through sequential demethylation, amination and esterification, a novel multi-chemically modified lignin-based adsorbent (NMCL) was developed to remove lead ions (Pb) from wastewater. These modifications significantly enhanced lignin's reactivity and introduced diverse active sites, thereby improving its adsorption performances. The adsorption studies revealed that NMCL's adsorption followed the Langmuir isotherm model and Pseudo-second-order kinetics, confirming a monolayer chemical adsorption process.

Objective: Cardiothoracic (CT) surgery remains a male-dominated specialty. Letters of recommendation (LORs) influence trainee selection and are vulnerable to biases. We aimed to qualitatively assess differences in LORs to integrated residency on the basis of applicant gender.

This study introduces advanced nanosilica as a sustainable and economical solution for water shutoff applications. We investigated the reaction kinetics of a nanofluidic in situ gel system, namely, nanosilica, that can be deployed in a targeted zone like vuggs, natural or induced fractures, and a high permeability streak. To systematically assess this nano-based fluid, the chemical properties prior to, during, and following the gelation reaction at a specific reservoir condition were examined to accurately predict the gelation time (GT) and avoid premature gelation during fluid injection.
