Published: December 2015

Objective: To validate the translated and cross culturally adapted Chilean version of the 8 and 18month Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-CL) in a community sample.

Participants: Parents of 1572 term children (82.9%) and 324 children at risk for developmental delay (17.1%) were included.

Instrument: ASQ-3rd edition translated and culturally adapted for Chilean urban population.

Main Measures: 8 and 18months ASQ-CL reliability, validity and mean scores. Feasibility was assessed using qualitative methods in healthcare professionals and mothers.

Results: ASQ-CL mean scores were comparable to U.S. normative data. The overall total score and all domains were reliable (Cronbach alpha 0.66-0.85). Test-retest and inter-rater reliability were high (Pearson's r range 0.73-0.94; intraclass correlation r range 0.68-0.93). Early preterm infants were more likely to fail on several criteria. Qualitative methods confirmed ASQ-CL as a feasible tool in this Chilean urban community.

Conclusions: ASQ-CL is a valid, reliable and feasible tool for assessing development in children at 8 and 18months in Chilean urban population.

This study considered using insect families as bioindicators to establish the health status of an ecosystem of lentic bodies. The water quality in urban lentic bodies in the Metropolitan Region, Chile, was evaluated from aquatic insect family assemblages and physicochemical variables for conserving aquatic life. Evaluations were carried out in parallel at four sampling stations of three water bodies (Batuco Wetland, Carén Lagoon, and Chada Reservoir) in a 2-3-year series, spring (2015, 2017, and 2018) and fall (2016 and 2018), with three replicates.

Food environments can constitute barriers that prevent healthy food choices and lead to overweight and obesity, as well as diet-related non-communicable diseases. There are international instruments that allow the characterization of food environments.

Institute of Education and Child Studies, Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Leiden University, Wassenaarseweg 52, Leiden, The Netherlands.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a well-evidenced impact on adolescents, who are especially sensitive to pandemic disruptions given the critical role of socialization in their development. In Chile too, evidence shows increases in mental health complaints among adolescents over the lockdown period. Our study aimed at exploring the experiences of Chilean adolescents regarding their mental health during the lockdown and school closure (March 2020-December 2021), and during the return to on-site education (2022) as informed by adolescents and school staff, with a focus on family, school, and social sources of risk and support for adolescents' wellbeing during these periods.
