Carbazole-derived self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are promising materials for hole-extraction layer (HEL) in conventional organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Here, a SAM Cbz-2Ph derived from 3,6-diphenylcarbazole is demonstrated. The large molecular dipole moment of Cbz-2Ph allows the modulation of electrode work function to facilitate hole extraction and maximize photovoltage, thus improving the OPV performance.

Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is a result of impaired blood flow from the SVC to the right atrium, leading to venous congestion in the head and neck. It can be caused by clotting disorders or compressive tumors of the head and neck but has become more prevalent in the setting of implantable devices such as pacemakers. As such, managing these patients can present challenges for physicians who have to account for SVC syndrome as well as their underlying condition requiring an implantable cardiac device.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated a shift to decentralized clinical trials. We present the potential feasibility of this approach from a phase 1 pharmacokinetic (PK) trial.
Methods: Healthy adults (18-55 years) with a body mass index of 19.

Marginal liver grafts, such as those from cardiac death donors and donors with steatotic organs, are highly vulnerable to ischemia-reperfusion injury. In addition, ex situ graft alteration, either by reduction or splitting, will prolong the static cold storage time and amplify the ischemia-reperfusion injury. Hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion has the potential to end the oxygen deprivation during preservation and accordingly improve outcomes in some marginal grafts that have been traditionally discarded.

Apheresis is essential to conducting hematopoietic cell transplantation and genetically engineered cellular therapy procedures. Many patients and donors require central venous catheter (CVC) access for apheresis due to lack of adequate peripheral venous access. CVC placement has risks of associated complications and requires additional institutional resources and expertise.
