The design of stimuli-responsive self-assembled molecular systems capable of undergoing mechanical work is one of the most important challenges in synthetic chemistry and materials science. Here we report that foldectures, that is, self-assembled molecular architectures of β-peptide foldamers, uniformly align with respect to an applied static magnetic field, and also show instantaneous orientational motion in a dynamic magnetic field. This response is explained by the amplified anisotropy of the diamagnetic susceptibilities as a result of the well-ordered molecular packing of the foldectures. In addition, the motions of foldectures at the microscale can be translated into magnetotactic behaviour at the macroscopic scale in a way reminiscent to that of magnetosomes in magnetotactic bacteria. This study will provide significant inspiration for designing the next generation of biocompatible peptide-based molecular machines with applications in biological systems.

are ssDNA plant viruses whose control has both economical and agricultural importance. Their capsids assemble into two distinct architectural forms: (i) a T = 1 icosahedral and (ii) a unique twinned quasi-isometric capsid. Described here are the high-resolution structures of both forms of the maize streak virus using cryo-EM.

In this paper, we investigated the efficient metal-free phosphorus-nitrogen (PN) catalyst and used the PN catalyst to degrade waste PU with two-component binary mixed alcohols as the alcohol solvent. We examined the effects of reaction temperature, time, and other factors on the hydroxyl value and viscosity of the degradation products; focused on the changing rules of the hydroxyl value, viscosity, and molecular weight of polyols recovered from degradation products with different dosages of the metal-free PN catalyst; and determined the optimal experimental conditions of reaction temperature 180 °C, reaction time 3 h, and PN dosage 0.08%.

Well-defined amorphous/semi-crystalline statistical copolymers of n-dodecyl isocyanate, DDIC, and allyl isocyanate, ALIC, were synthesized via coordination polymerization using the chiral half-titanocene complex CpTiCl(O-(S)-2-Bu) as an initiator. In the frame of the terminal model, the monomer reactivity ratios of the statistical copolymers were calculated using both well-known linear graphical methods and the computer program COPOINT. The molecular and structural characteristics of the copolymers were also calculated.

Filler defects and matrix crosslinking degree are the main factors affecting the interfacial adhesion properties of propellants. Improving adhesion can significantly enhance debonding resistance. In this study, all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are employed to investigate the interfacial adsorption behavior and mechanisms between ammonium perchlorate (AP) fillers and a poly(3,3-bis-azidomethyl oxetane)-tetrahydrofuran (PBT) matrix.
