We report a facile fabrication of porous silicon nanofibers by a simple three-stage procedure. Polymer/silicon precursor composite nanofibers are first fabricated by electrospinning, a water-based spinning dope, which undergoes subsequent heat treatment and then reduction using magnesium to be converted into porous silicon nanofibers. The porous silicon nanofibers are coated with a graphene by using a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition for use as an anode material of lithium ion batteries. The porous silicon nanofibers can be mass-produced by a simple and solvent-free method, which uses an environmental-friendly polymer solution. The graphene-coated silicon nanofibers show an improved cycling performance of a capacity retention than the pure silicon nanofibers due to the suppression of the volume change and the increase of electric conductivity by the graphene.

We present a radiative cooling material capable of enhancing albedo while reducing ground surface temperatures beneath fielded bifacial solar panels. Electrospinning a layer of polyacrylonitrile nanofibers, or nanoPAN, onto a polymer-coated silver mirror yields a total solar reflectance of 99 %, an albedo of 0.96, and a thermal emittance of 0.

Wound healing is a complex physiological process, demanding advanced strategies for efficient tissue regeneration. To address this, we developed a novel nanofibrous matrix composed of polygalacturonic acid (PGA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), capsaicin, and zinc-doped mesoporous silica (Zn/MCM-41). This copolymeric matrix offers enhanced mechanical stability, controlled drug release, and improved cellular adhesion and proliferation, leading to effective tissue regeneration.

The high-efficiency utilization of two-dimensional (2D) graphene layers for developing durable multifunctional electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing aerogels is highly demanded yet remains challenging. Here, renewable, low-density, high-strength, and large-aspect-ratio ceramic silicon dioxide (SiO) nanofibers were efficiently prepared to assist in the preparation of ultralight yet robust, highly elastic, and hydrophobic graphene aerogels using facile, scalable freeze-drying followed by a carbonization approach. The ceramic nanofibers efficiently prevent the agglomeration of graphene and enhance interfacial interactions, significantly promoting mechanical strength.

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) which was first reported in early January 2020, continues to devastate the worlds public health system. Herein, we report on the development of a novel metal-enhanced fluorescence (MEF) and electrochemical biosensor for SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein. To develop the MEF biosensor, SiO-coated Si-doped ZnSeS quantum dots (QDs) were newly synthesized and conjugated to an aptamer-molecular beacon (Apta-MB) probe.

This paper presents the development and application of attapulgite/polyimide nanofiber composite aerogels (ATP/PI NFAs) integrated with a range of acid-base indicators, fabricated using electrospinning and freeze-drying technologies. A detailed characterization of the ATP/PI NFAs revealed a 3D multi-level pore structure that enhanced the mass transfer of target gas molecules and their interaction with probe molecules. Utilizing machine learning approaches, we designed an ATP/PI NFAs-based colorimetric sensor array capable of real-time evaluation of balsa fish freshness.
