The tRNA methyltransferase 1 (TRMT1) enzyme catalyzes the N2,N2-dimethylguanosine (m2,2G) modification in tRNAs. Intriguingly, vertebrates encode an additional tRNA methyltransferase 1-like (TRMT1L) paralog. Here, we use a comprehensive tRNA sequencing approach to decipher targets of human TRMT1 and TRMT1L.

Background: Reduction of intracellular Na accumulation through late Na current inhibition has been recognized as a target for cardiac Ca handling which underlies myocardial contractility and relaxation in heart failure (HF). Riluzole, an Na channel blocker with enhancement of Ca-activated K channel function, used for management of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is effective in suppressing Ca leak and therefore may improve cardiac function.

Objectives: The study aim was to investigate whether riluzole lowers HF incidence.

Biomarkers.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Clinical Research Center, Department of Medical Research, Yangon, Myanmar.

Background: Diabetes mellitus increases the risk of cognitive decline and neuronal degeneration. In diabetes, persistently elevated blood sugar levels cause not only the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), but also systemic inflammation (1). This raises an intriguing question: do patients with controlled or uncontrolled diabetes exhibit similar levels of oxidative stress and systemic inflammation as reliable predictors of peripheral neuropathy and cognitive decline?

Method: In 2019, 150 participants with diabetes mellitus who had been diagnosed for more than 5 years were voluntarily enrolled.
