Background: Optimal therapy following breast-conserving surgery in older adults with low-risk, early-stage breast cancer remains uncertain. The EUROPA trial aims to compare the effects of radiotherapy and endocrine therapy as single-modality treatments on health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and ipsilateral breast tumour recurrence (IBTR) outcomes in this population.

Methods: This non-inferiority, phase 3, randomised study was conducted at 18 academic hospitals across Italy (17 centres) and Slovenia (one centre).

Fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) has demonstrated substantial antitumor activity and durable responses in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 positive (HER2+) metastatic breast cancer. We report here the treatment outcomes of T-DXd in a patient with HER2+ breast cancer with brain metastases that repeatedly recurred and progressed after two lines of salvage therapy. In 2016, a 23-year-old G0P0 female with risk factors including menarche at age 9 years, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and a strong family history of cancer was diagnosed with bilateral, triple-positive breast cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Cancer treatments can cause harmful effects on blood circulation, but laser therapy might help restore balance in patients.
  • This study compared two groups of mastectomized patients taking hormonal blockers: one group received intravascular laser therapy while the other received a placebo, and biomarkers were measured over four months.
  • Results showed a significant reduction in homocysteine levels in the laser-treated group, suggesting this therapy could benefit cardiovascular health in patients receiving cancer treatment.

This is a case of a 71-year-old Caucasian female presenting with invasive carcinoma of the breast with contralateral axillary lymph node metastasis. This unique presentation presents clinicians with difficulty staging and, therefore, predicting patient prognosis. This patient had a history of right ER/PR positive HER2 negative stage 1 breast cancer s/p lumpectomy with sentinel lymph node biopsy and radiation plus tamoxifen x6 months in 2017.

Background: Breast conserving surgery (BCS) is well established for the management of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), but neither randomized trials nor guidelines address management of ipsilateral breast tumor recurrence (IBTR) after BCS for DCIS.

Patients And Methods: We identified women treated with BCS for DCIS who developed IBTR as a first event. Between those treated with mastectomy versus re-BCS, we compare the clinicopathologic characteristics, the use of adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) both upfront ("primary RT") and post IBTR ("secondary RT"), of tamoxifen, the rate of third events (local, regional, distant), and both breast cancer specific (BCSS) and overall survival (OS).
