Only few studies exist regarding the risk of a teratogenic effect of tramadol when used in early pregnancy. Using the Swedish Medical Birth Register, women (deliveries in 1997-2013) who had reported the use of tramadol in early pregnancy were identified. Maternal characteristics and concomitant drug use were analyzed. Among 1,682,846 women (1,797,678 infants), 1751 (1776 infants) had used tramadol, 96 of the infants had a congenital malformation and 70 of them were relatively severe. The adjusted odds ratio for a relatively severe malformation was 1.33 (95% CI 1.05-1.70). The odds ratios for cardiovascular defects (1.56, 95% CI 1.04-2.29) and for pes equinovarus (3.63, 95% CI 1.61-6.89) were significantly increased. The study suggests a teratogenic effect of tramadol but the risk increase is moderate.

The opioid epidemic has emerged in the USA in the late 1990s and widespread to Canada, Australia, and the UK to a lesser extent in the more recent years. At the European level, several studies performed in different European countries have highlighted that prescription opioid use increased substantially over the last decade, and several proxies for misuse show a parallel increasing trend. The French addictovigilance experience on opioid analgesics is a good example of a specific dedicated monitoring, taking into account in a global and multisource perspective, patterns of utilization, population involved in problematic use, ways of acquisition and health complications.

Severe headache as the initial clinical manifestation of early neurological deterioration (END) is uncommon. The emergence of severe headache should be promptly recognized as a potential indicator of large vessel stenosis. Here, we describe a male patient who initially presented with severe headache accompanied by transient left limb weakness, which subsequently progressed to persistent weakness.

There was bilateral periorbital swelling and ocular discharge with caseous material blocking the choana.

Introduction: Post-operative pain after orthopedic surgery has remained a challenging problem, which prolongs hospital stay and early rehabilitation. Pregabalin comes under the class of gabapentinoids that have been used in postoperative pain in arthroplasty and spine surgeries but studies regarding its role as pre-emptive analgesia in orthopedic limb surgeries are very few.
Aims: To compare the efficacy of pre-operative pregabalin with a placebo drug in early post-operative pain management for lower limb orthopedics surgeries.
