The growth and characterisation of a non-planar phthalocyanine (vanadyl phthalocyanine, VOPc) on a complete monolayer (ML) of a planar phthalocyanine (Iron(II) phthalocyanine, FePc) on an Au(111) surface, has been investigated using ultra-high vacuum (UHV) scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). The surface mesh of the initial FePc monolayer has been determined and shown to correspond to an incommensurate overlayer, not commensurate as previously reported. Ordered islands of VOPc, with (1 × 1) epitaxy, grow on the FePc layer at submonolayer coverages. The individual VOPc molecules occupy sites directly atop the underlying FePc molecules, indicating that significant intermolecular bonding must occur. It is proposed that this interaction implies that the V[double bond, length as m-dash]O points down into the surface, allowing a Fe-O bond to form. The detailed appearance of the STM images of the VOPc molecules is consistent with previous studies in other VOPc growth studies in which this molecular orientation has been proposed.

Ambipolar devices are a hot topic in research tables due to their unique advantage in reducing the size of the electrical system and enhancing its efficiency. Here, we report a bilayer heterojunction device constructed using octafluoro-vanadyl-phthalocyanine (VOFPc) and lutetium bisphthalocyanine (LuPc), which exhibits both p- and n-type behaviors under oxidizing (NO and O) and reducing gas (NH) species depending on the humidity level and temperature variations. The initial polarity of the device is identified as n-type by measuring a current decrease under oxygen exposure.

School of Earth Environmental and Marine Sciences, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, 1 West University Blvd., Brownsville, TX 78521, USA.

The present work focuses on the synthesis of a vanadium nitride (VN)/carbon nanocomposite material via the thermal decomposition of vanadyl phthalocyanine (VOPC). The morphology and chemical structure of the synthesized compounds were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). The successful syntheses of the VOPC and non-metalated phthalocyanine (HPC) precursors were confirmed using FTIR and XRD.

Using Recycled Tetrapak and Doped Titanyl/Vanadyl Phthalocyanine to Make Solid-State Devices.

Materials (Basel)

Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Circuito Exterior s/n. C.U., Ciudad de México 04510, Mexico.

In this work we studied the semiconductor behavior of titanyl phthalocyanine (TiOPc) and vanadyl phthalocyanine (VOPc), doped with anthraflavic acid and deposited on Tetrapak/graphite as flexible electrodes. The molecular structure was approached using the density functional theory and astonishingly, it was found that the structure and electronic behavior can change depending on the metal in the phthalocyanine. Experimentally, the Root Mean Square was found to be 124 and 151 nm for the VOPc-Anthraflavine and TiOPc-Anthraflavine films, respectively, and the maximum stress was 8.

Halogenated metal phthalocyanines are promising materials for the manufacture of active layers of chemiresistive sensors for the detection of various gases. Despite the high interest in such sensors, there are few systematic studies of the position of halogen substituents in phthalocyanine macroring on the chemiresistive response of their films to gases. In this work, we prepared and studied films of novel tetrachlorosubstituted vanadyl phthalocyanine derivatives with Cl substituents in the peripheral (VOPcCl-p) and nonperipheral (VOPcCl-np) positions of the phthalocyanine ring as active layers of chemiresistive sensors to reveal the effect of the position of substituents on their structure and sensor response to low concentrations of NH.

In this work, octafluoro-substituted phthalocyanines of zinc, vanadyl, and cobalt (MPcF, M = Zn(II), Co(II), VO) were synthesized and studied. The structures of single crystals of the obtained phthalocyanines were determined. To visualize and compare intermolecular contacts in MPcF, an analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces (HS) was performed.
