Background: The emergency department of Embhuleni Hospital frequently manages patients with glass-related injuries. This study assessed these injuries and the glass that caused them in more detail.
Aim: The objectives of our study included determining the type of glass causing these injuries and describing the circumstances associated with different types of glass injuries.
Setting: The emergency department of Embhuleni Hospital in Elukwatini, Mpumalanga province, South Africa.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with a sample size of 104 patients. Descriptive statistics were used to assess the characteristics of the glass injuries.
Results: Five different types of glass were reported to have caused the injuries, namely car glass (7.69%), glass ampoules (3.85%), glass bottles (82.69%), glass windows (3.85%) and street glass shards (1.92%). Glass bottle injuries were mainly caused by assaults (90.47%) and most victims were mostly young males (80.23%). The assaults occurred at alcohol-licensed premises in 65.11% of cases. These injuries occurred mostly over weekends (83.72%), between 18:00 and 04:00. The face (34.23%) and the scalp (26.84%) were the sites that were injured most often.
Conclusion: Assault is the most common cause of glass injuries, usually involving young men at alcohol-licensed premises. Glass injuries generally resulted in minor lacerations, with few complications (2.68%).

Context: "Nanostructure of graphene-reinforced with polymethyl methacrylate" (PMMA-G), and vice versa, is investigated using its molecular structure, in the present work. The PMMA-G nanostructure was constructed by bonding PMMA with graphene nanosheet in a sense to get three different configurations. Each configuration consisted of polymeric structures with three degrees of polymerization (such as monomers, dimers, and trimers polymers, respectively).

The glassy state of inorganic-organic hybrid metal halides combines their excellent optoelectronic properties with the outstanding processability of glass, showcasing unique application potential in solar devices, display technologies, and plastic electronics. Herein, by tailoring the organic cation from -phenylpiperazine to dimethylamine gradually, four types of zero-dimensional antimony halides are obtained with various optical and thermal properties. The guest water molecules in crystal (-phenylpiperazine)SbCl·Cl·5HO lead to the largest distortion of the Sb-halogen unit, resulting in the red emission different from the yellow emission of other compounds.

Recent trends in toxicological pathology include implementation of digital platforms that have gained rapid momentum in the field. Are we ready to fully implement this new modality? This opinion piece provides some practical perspectives on digital pathology such as its cost limitations, relative time requirements, and a few technical issues, some of which are encountered for specific lesions, that warrant caution. Although the potential for digital pathology assessment with whole slide images has made great strides, we are of the opinion that it is not yet ready for complete replacement of glass slides in toxicologic pathology safety assessments.

Objective: To investigate the effect of cervical margin relocation with four different injectable restorative materials on the fracture resistance of molars receiving mesio-occluso-distal CAD/CAM nanoceramic onlay restorations.
Materials And Methods: One hundred and five sound mandibular molars received a standardized mesio-occluso-distal onlay preparation, with cervical margins located 2 mm apical to the cemento-enamel junction. The molars were randomly allocated into five groups (n = 21) according to the cervical relocating materials used: Group I had no cervical margin relocation; Group II used a highly viscous glass ionomer; Group III used a highly-filled injectable resin composite; Group IV used a resin-modified glass ionomer; and Group V used a bioactive ionic resin.
