Long and single-crystalline CdS nanotubes (NTs) have been prepared via a physical evaporation process. A metal-semiconductor-metal full-nanostructured photodetector with CdS NTs as active layer and Ag nanowires (NWs) of low resistivity and high transmissivity as electrodes has been fabricated and characterized. The CdS NTs-based photodetectors exhibit high performance, such as lowest dark currents (0.19 nA) and high photoresponse ratio (Ilight/Idark ≈ 4016) (among CdS nanostructure network photodetectors and NTs netwok photodetectors reported so far) and very low operation voltages (0.5 V). The photoconduction mechanism, including the formation of a Schottky barrier at the interface of Ag NW and CdS NTs and the effect of oxygen adsorption process on the Schottky barrier has also been provided in detail based on the studies of CdS NTs photodetector in air and vacuum. Furthermore, CdS NTs photodetector exhibits an enhanced photosensitivity as compared with CdS NWs photodetector. The enhancement in performance is dependent on the larger surface area of NTs adsorbing more oxygen in air and the microcavity structure of NTs with higher light absorption efficiency and external quantum efficiency. It is believed that CdS NTs can potentially be useful in the designs of 1D CdS-based optoelectronic devices and solar cells.

The sensing of phthalate esters (PAEs) is vital for people's health and environmental protection. This study aimed to develop a highly sensitive and selective photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensor for PAEs analysis in complex samples. The biosensor is based on a CdS nanoparticle/TiO nanotube (CdS NP/TiO NT) electrode substrate and a truncated PAEs aptamer (PAEs-apt).

CdS-Modified TiO Nanotubes with Heterojunction Structure: A Photoelectrochemical Sensor for Glutathione.

The formation of heterojunction structures can effectively prevent the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs in semiconductors and result in the enhancement of photoelectric properties. Using TiO nanotubes (prepared using the hydrothermal-impregnation method) as carriers, CdS-TiONTs were fabricated as a photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor, which can be used under visible light and can exhibit good PEC performance due to the existence of the heterojunction structure. The experimental results show that the prepared CdS-TiONTs electrode had a linear response to 2-16 mM glutathione (GSH).

PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs), as a novel class of small non-coding RNAs that have been shown to be indispensable in germline integrity and stem cell development. However, the expressed characteristics and regulatory roles of piRNAs during different reproductive phases of animals remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the piRNAs expression profiles in ovaries of sheep during the luteal phase (LP) and follicular phase (FP) using the Solexa sequencing technique.

In this work, an efficient and novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor for 2,3',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB72) was constructed based on CdTe@CdS core@shell quantum dots (CdTe@CdS QDs)-decorated TiO nanotubes (TiO NTs). CdTe@CdS QDs were prepared by the combination of CdTe and CdS with a proper lattice mismatch. Due to their large band offsets, core@shell QDs can reduce undesirable carrier recombination, significantly improving their charge separation efficiency.

School of Chemistry and Materials Science, Ludong University, Yantai 264025, China. Electronic address:

The ternary CdS/Ag/TiO NTs photocatalysts with indirect Z-scheme heterojunctions were synthesized by the photoreduction deposition of Ag and successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) of CdS on TiO nanotube arrays (TiO NTs). The elemental composition, microstructure, photoresponse and photoelectrochemical property of the photocatalyst were systematically characterized. The results proved that compared with binary heterojunction, the light absorption range of the ternary CdS/Ag/TiO NTs photocatalyst was significantly extended, and the photoelectron transportation efficiency was improved.
