Article Synopsis
  • This study examines the effects of oral isotretinoin on eye health in patients with acne vulgaris, highlighting issues like dryness and discomfort.
  • A survey of 489 participants showed a high prevalence of ocular symptoms linked to isotretinoin use, with notable findings including a majority experiencing soreness and blurred vision.
  • Key risk factors for worsening eye symptoms included contact lens use and higher isotretinoin dosages, suggesting the need for careful monitoring and preventive measures for patients at risk.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of curcumin (Cur) against arsenic-induced neuroimmune toxicity and the underlying molecular mechanisms in vivo. Methods Eighty SPF female C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to four groups: a control group, an arsenic-treated group, a Cur-treated group and an arsenic+Cur group, with 20 mice in each group. The control group received distilled water; the arsenic-treated group was given 50 mg/L NaAsO in the drinking water; the Cur-treated group was gavaged with 200 mg/kg of curcumin for 45 days; and the arsenic+Cur group received distilled water and was gavaged with 200 mg/kg of curcumin.

Prenatal exposure to bisphenol analogs (BPs) may pose hazards to offspring's health; however, their underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. DNA methylation, a major epigenetic mechanism, may be involved in early programming following environmental disturbances. In this prospective study, we investigated associations between prenatal BPs exposure and the placental DNA methylation levels of 14 candidate genes in the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathway among 205 mother-infant pairs and explored the potential mediating role of the DNA methylation in the association of prenatal BPs exposure with anthropometric measurements of infants aged 1 year.

The dopamine D1-like receptor is a dopamine (DA) receptor regulating diverse brain functions. Once the dopamine D1-like receptor is activated, it induces activation of the Protein Kinase A (PKA) that phosphorylates the cAMP Response Element-Binding (CREB) transcription factor, which once active elicits the expression of the critical synaptic elements Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated (Arc) and the Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF). The temporality and subcellular localization of proteins impact brain function.

Retinoids are known to improve the condition of the skin. Transepithelial transport of sodium and chloride ions is important for proper skin function. So far, the effect of applying vitamin A preparations to the skin on ion transport has not been evaluated.
