Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy of the minimally invasive locking plate technique (Philos plate) and interlocking intramedullary nailing technique (TRIGEN intramedullary nail) in the treatment of Neer two-part and three-part proximal humeral fractures.

Methods And Materials: The clinical data of 60 patients with Neer two-part and three-part proximal humerus fractures admitted to the hospital from April 2017 to April 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Thirty-two patients were treated with the minimally invasive locking plate technique (minimally invasive plate group), and 28 patients were treated with the interlocking intramedullary nailing technique (intramedullary nail group).

Biomechanical and clinical evaluation of minimal invasive plate osteosynthesis for two-part clavicle shaft fractures.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

July 2023

University Centre for Orthopaedic, Trauma- and Plastic Surgery (OUPC), University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, Technical University Dresden, Fetscherstraße 74, 01307, Dresden, Germany.

Background: Many surgical treatment methods exist for clavicle shaft fractures. A locking compression plate (LCP) fixation with three screws per fracture side is commonly used. For certain fractures a stabilization with 2 screws per side is potentially suitable, offering the advantage of reduced soft tissue approach, while avoiding the disadvantages of minimally-invasive nailing at the same time.

Can universal adhesive systems bond to zirconia?

J Esthet Restor Dent

November 2019

Faculty of Dentistry of Pernambuco, Universidade de Pernambuco - UPE, Camaragibe, Pernambuco, Brazil.

Objective: To measure the bond strength to zirconia subjected to different surface treatments of universal bonding agents.

Materials And Methods: Eighty blocks of zirconia were obtained by CAD/CAM milling. The blocks were embedded into PVC tubes, polished sequentially with increasing granulation sandpapers and divided into two groups according to surface treatment: polished or grit-blasted with alumina particles.

Percutaneous intervention is among the preferred diagnostic and treatment options in surgery today. Recently, a biologically inspired needle steering system was proposed, where a novel "programmable bevel" is employed to control the tip angle as a function of the offset between interlocked needle segments. The new device, codenamed soft tissue intervention and neurosurgical guide (STING), can steer along arbitrary curvilinear trajectories within a compliant medium, and be controlled by means of an embedded position sensor.
