A new validated spectrofluorimetric method has been developed for the determination of some cephalosporins namely; cefepime, cefaclor, cefadroxil, cefpodoxime and cefexime. The method was based on the reaction of these drugs with safranin in slightly alkaline medium (pH 8.0), to form ion-association complexes. The fluorescent products were extracted into chloroform and their fluorescence intensities were measured at 544-565 nm after excitation at 518-524 nm. The reaction conditions influencing the product formation and stability were investigated and optimized. The relative fluorescence intensity was proportional to the drug concentration in the linear ranges of 0.15-1.35, 0.35-1.25, 0.35-1.25, 0.20-1.44 and 0.20-1.25 μg/mL for cefepime, cefaclor, cefadroxil, cefpodoxime proxetil and cefexime, respectively. The detection limits were 40, 100, 100, 60 and 70 ng/mL, respectively. The performance of the developed method was evaluated in terms of Student's t-test and variance ratio F-test to find out the significance of proposed methods over the reference spectrophotometric method. Various pharmaceutical formulations were successfully analyzed using the proposed method and the results were in good agreement with those of the previously reported methods.

An ecofriendly, effective, and selective spectrofluorimetric approach for natamycin analysis was developed using fluorescamine as a fluorogenic probe. Natamycin is the only topical ocular antifungal medication that is presently on the market for treating keratitis, conjunctivitis, and blepharitis caused by yeast and other fungi. Owing to its primary aliphatic amino group, natamycin can easily interact with fluorescamine resulting in the formation of the highly fluorescent diaryl pyrrolone derivative.

The protease, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin type 1 motif member 13 (ADAMTS13), known to cleave only the von Willebrand factor (VWF), has powerful regulatory effects on microvascular platelet adhesion, thrombosis, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. We study the protection against diabetes-induced retinal injury in experimental rats by supplementation with recombinant ADAMTS13. We compare human epiretinal membranes and vitreous samples from nondiabetic subjects and patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and extend in vitro analyses with the use of various immunodetection and spectrofluorimetric methods on rat retina and human retinal glial and endothelial cell cultures.

Two versatile yet simple methods, colorimetric and spectrofluorimetric, were utilized for the quantitation of nonchromophore neomycin using silver nanoparticles modified with fluorescein. Fluorescein was excited at 485 nm (emission at 515 nm); when it is deposited on the surface of silver nanoparticles, its fluorescence intensity at 515 nm is quenched. Neomycin restores the fluorescence level at 515 nm by displacing fluorescein from nanoparticle binding sites.

Highly sensitive spectrofluorimetric methods were developed for the quantitative estimation of formoterol fumarate dihydrate (FFD) and fluticasone propionate (FP) in both authentic raw materials and marketed dosage forms using a micellar-enhanced spectrofluorimetric approach. The proposed methods are based on the determination of FP in the presence of FFD using the first derivative emission spectrofluorimetry. The peak amplitude of the emission spectra of the formed micellar fluorescence was measured at 465 nm after excitation at 236 nm (λ max of FP).

Aims: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) account for about 80% of the mesenchymal tumors of the GI tract. About 5000-6000 patients are diagnosed in the United States (US) alone, and up to 14.5 cases per million discovered in Europe annually.
