Photon emission may be continuously produced from mechanical work through self-recoverable mechanoluminescence (ML). Significant progress has been made in high-performance ML materials in the past decades, but the rate-dependent ML kinetics remains poorly understood. Here, we have conducted systematic studies on the self-recoverable ML of Mn-doped SrZnOS (SrZnOS: Mn) under rapid compression up to ~10 GPa.

Purpose Of Review: This review highlights new Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved glaucoma treatments to familiarize providers with immediately available options.
Recent Findings: New FDA-approved treatments include the bimatoprost implant, travoprost implant, direct selective laser trabeculoplasty (DSLT), and ocular pressure adjusting pump. The bimatoprost implant is approved for a single administration with effects lasting for about 1 year, as opposed to the nearly 3-year effect for the travoprost implant.

Background: Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD), as defined by neuroimaging characteristics such as white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), cerebral microhemorrhages (CMHs), and lacunar infarcts, is highly prevalent and has been associated with dementia risk and other clinical sequelae. Although risk factors for cSVD have been identified, little is known about the biological processes and molecular mediators that influence cSVD development and progression.
Methods: Within the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, we used SomaScan Multiplexed Proteomic technology to relate 4,877 plasma proteins to concurrently measured MRI-defined cSVD characteristics, including WMHs, CMHs, and lacunar infarcts, in late-life (n=1508; mean age: 76).
Background: Prior research suggests living in an advantaged community in childhood is protective for late-life cognition and MRI-derived markers of brain health, independent of individual socioeconomic status. We examined the extent to which this effect is mediated by midlife hypertension status.
Method: KHANDLE and STAR are racially/ethnically diverse cohorts of older adults residing in northern California.

Background: Stiffening of the large elastic arteries is an emerging age-related risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementia (ADRD). Arterial stiffness is associated with pathological changes underlying AD/ADRD, and total arterial stiffness (T-PWV) can be subdivided into two main mechanisms. Structural stiffening (S-PWV) is due to intrinsic remodeling of the artery wall, and load-dependent stiffening (LD-PWV) is due to increased blood pressure without intrinsic changes to the artery wall.
