Background: There is a continued interest in global emergency medicine (EM) training, research, and clinical program development. There are many opportunities for "voluntourism" in medicine, but many of these experiences do not have standard goals and objectives.

Objective: This article describes a rotation for EM residents from the United States to have a structured learning experience focusing on emergency medical settings in the prehospital phase (something often lacking in U.S. programs).

Discussion: The authors discuss the structure of the training program, including goals, objectives, and core competencies. First-hand accounts of the training experience are also presented.

Conclusions: Global training experiences can have clear benefits. Students go to places to "learn," but can also "teach" at the same time. Setting goals and objectives helps to assure that students are gaining specific core competencies as part of the experience. Other global rotations would benefit from having a defined structure.

Background: We performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) of individualized patient data (IPD) to inform the development of evidence-informed clinical practice recommendations.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Central in October 2023 to identify RCTs comparing Hartmann's resection (HR), primary resection and anastomosis (PRA), or laparoscopic peritoneal lavage (LPL) among patients with class Ib-IV Hinchey diverticulitis. Outcomes of interest were prioritized by an international, multidisciplinary panel including two patient partners.

Individuals afflicted with heart failure complicated by sepsis often experience a surge in blood glucose levels, a phenomenon known as stress hyperglycemia. However, the correlation between this condition and overall mortality remains unclear. 869 individuals with heart failure complicated by sepsis were identified from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) database and categorized into five cohorts based on their stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR).

Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) has been used to guide radio-frequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for better catheter navigation and less radiation exposure in treating atrial fibrillation (AF). This retrospective cohort study enrolled 227 AF patients undergoing ICE- or traditional fluoroscopy (TF)-guided RFCA for AF in a tertiary hospital. ICE was used more often in patients with atrial tachycardia [odds ratio (OR) 3.
