The main goal of the present work was to assess the mechanism of crystallisation, more precisely the dominant component responsible for primary crystal formations and fat agglomerations. Therefore, DSC results exhibited significant effect on temperature transition; peak sharpness and enthalpy at palm stearin (PS) levels more than 40wt.%. HPLC data demonstrated slight reduction in the content of POO/OPO at PS levels less than 40wt.%, while the excessive addition of PS more than 40wt.% increased significantly PPO/POP content. The pNMR results showed significant drop in SFC for blends containing PS less than 40wt.%, resulting in low SFC less than 15% at body temperature (37°C). Moreover, the values of viscosity (η) and shear stress (τ) at PS levels over 40wt.% expressed excellent internal friction of the admixtures. All the data reported indicate that PPO/POP was the major component of primary nucleus developed. In part, the levels of PS should be less than 40wt.%, if these blends are designed to be used for margarine production.

Purpose: We evaluate the toxicity and plasma toxicokinetic (TK) profile of a biodegradable subconjunctival microrod for sustained prednisolone acetate (PA) release over 12 weeks in a non-human primate model.
Methods: The biodegradable copolymer poly(l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone) (PLC) and 40-wt% PA microrods were used and fashioned into 8 and 16 mm lengths. Twelve monkeys were divided into two treatment groups of PA-loaded and blank microrods, with six monkeys each receiving either 8- or 16-mm microrods subconjunctively implanted into both eyes.

Optimization studies of a novel and eco-friendly construction material, Thiomer, was investigated in the solidification/stabilization of automobile shredded residue (ASR) fly ash. A D-optimal mixture design was used to evaluate and optimize maximum compressive strength and heavy metals leaching by varying Thiomer (20-40wt%), ASR fly ash (30-50wt%) and sand (20-40wt%). The analysis of variance was utilized to determine the level of significance of each process parameters and interactions.

Bioceramics for regenerative medicine applications should have the ability to promote adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast and osteoclast cells. Osteogenic properties of the material are essential for rapid bone regeneration and new bone formation. The aim of this study was to develop a silicate-based ceramic, gehlenite (GLN, Ca2Al2SiO7), and characterise its physiochemical, biocompatibility and osteogenic properties.

The biodegradable poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT)/thermoplastic starch (TPS) composite has received considerable attention because of the environmental concerns raised by solid waste disposal. However, the application of PBAT/TPS blends was limited due to the poor mechanical properties originating from the incompatibility between PBAT and TPS. In this work, two approaches were developed to improve the mechanical properties of PBAT/TPS blends.

Objective: To establish the relationship between photoinitiator system and nanofiller size on the optical properties and cure efficiency of model composites.
Methods: Model composites based on BisGMA/TEGDMA (60:40mol%) were loaded with 40wt% of 7nm or 16nm-sized filler particles. One of the following photoinitiator systems was added: camphorquinone (CQ) associated with an amine (EDMAB), monoacylphosphine oxide (TPO), or bysacylphosphine oxide (BAPO).
