This report describes changes documented on spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in the right eye of a 58-year-old woman who eventually developed a secondary full-thickness macular hole (FTMH). She had a history of vitreomacular traction (VMT) that had resolved spontaneously with a complete posterior vitreous detachment. Despite VMT resolution, a hyperreflective band from the internal to the external limiting membrane and evidence of photoreceptor disruption persisted on SD-OCT for 2 years, at which point an FTMH developed. Despite VMT release, the unexpected FTMH coupled with the preceding outer retinal changes suggest persistent secondary damage to Müller cells as a potential factor.

Comprehensive multimodal imaging is essential for the precise clinical diagnostics of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). Noninvasive optical coherence tomography (OCT) is of prime importance regarding the baseline examination, follow-up and monitoring during treatment. The OCT imaging in nAMD eyes enables a high-resolution assessment of the retinal micromorphology, which can be considerably disturbed in different layers.

The outer retina (OR) is highly energy demanding. Impaired energy metabolism combined with high demands are expected to cause energy insufficiencies that make the OR susceptible to complex blinding diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Here, anatomical, physiological and quantitative molecular data were used to calculate the ATP expenditure of the main energy-consuming processes in three cell types of the OR for the night and two different periods during the day.

Surprisingly, three mutant alleles, ( (K42E/K42E), (T206A/K42E), and found in only one patient, (R98W/K42E) have been reported that cause non-syndromic retinitis pigmentosa (RP59), an inherited retinal degeneration (IRD). Because T206A was only observed heterozygously with the K42E allele in RP59 patients, we used CRISPR/CAS9 technology to generate T206A/T206A, and subsequently T206A/K42E alleles in mice to assess the contribution of the T206A allele to the disease phenotype, to model the human disease, and to compare resulting phenotypes to our homozygous K42E mouse model.

: In this study, we evaluated the incidence of cystoid macular edema (CME) after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for different retinal pathologies and assessed the role of optical coherence tomography (OCT) biomarkers in guiding treatment decisions in post-surgical CME patients who were refractory to medical therapy over a follow-up period of 12 months. : Medical records of consecutive pseudophakic patients, who underwent PPV for different retinal pathologies, were retrospectively evaluated in this single-center, uncontrolled study. The incidence of post-PPV CME was assessed.

Purpose: This study evaluates the effectiveness of the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique during vitrectomy for treating macular hole-induced retinal detachment (MHRD) in high myopia patients, a challenging complication for vitreoretinal surgeons due to its treatment complexity.
Methods: We conducted a prospective study analyzing 92 eyes diagnosed with MHRD, all undergoing vitrectomy using the inverted ILM flap technique between February 2022 and September 2024. Successful surgery was defined as achieving retinal reattachment, macular hole closure, and improvement in visual acuity by the 12-month postoperative follow-up.
