Nitrogen fixation is essential for the sustainable development of both human society and the environment. Due to the chemical inertness of the N≡N bond, the traditional Haber-Bosch process operates under extreme conditions, making nitrogen fixation under ambient conditions highly desirable but challenging. In this study, we present an ultrasonic atomizing microdroplet method that achieves nitrogen fixation using water and air under ambient conditions in a rationally designed sealed device, without the need for any catalyst.

Electrolyzed acidic water (EAW) contains hypochlorous acid as its active compound, which is a potent antimicrobial. It was encapsulated in polymeric coatings and applied to the surface of eggs. The antimicrobial activity and the ability to extend the shelf life of eggs at ambient temperature for 45 days were evaluated, by physical, microbiological, and sensory analyses.

Objectives: To explore associations between population density, air pollution concentrations, and related health outcomes in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand.
Methods: Concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO) and fine particulate matter (PM) and associated health outcomes (premature mortality, cardiovascular and respiratory hospitalisations, and childhood asthma) were obtained from the Health and Air Pollution in New Zealand 2016 study. The possible mediating factors assessed were motor vehicle traffic, domestic fires, local industry, and green space.

Limiting climate change to targets enshrined in the Paris Agreement will require both deep decarbonization of the energy system and the deployment of carbon dioxide removal at potentially large scale (gigatons of annual removal). Nations are pursuing direct air capture to compensate for inertia in the expansion of low-carbon energy systems, decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, and address legacy emissions. Global assessments of this technology have failed to integrate factors that affect net capture and removal cost, including ambient conditions like temperature and humidity, as well as emission factors of electricity and natural gas systems.

This work proposes a fuel cell power supply system for underwater applications (e.g., autonomous underwater vehicles), where artificial gills, based on a polymer membrane, harvest the required oxygen from the ambient water.
