A review of literature published in 2014 focusing on analytical methods for pesticides in the water environment is presented here. The review includes publications on extraction methods and on analytical methods such as biochemical assays and immunoassays, electrochemical methods, chromatographic or mass spectrometric techniques, spectrophotometric techniques, fluorescence, and chemiluminescence techniques.

Official development agencies are increasingly supporting civil society lobby and advocacy (L&A) to address poverty and human rights. However, there are challenges in evaluating L&A. As programme objectives are often to change policies or practices in a single institution like a Government Ministry, L&A programmes are often not amenable to large-n impact evaluation methods.

Background: Forecasting future public pharmaceutical expenditure is a challenge for healthcare payers, particularly owing to the unpredictability of new market introductions and their economic impact. No best-practice forecasting methods have been established so far. The literature distinguishes between the top-down approach, based on historical trends, and the bottom-up approach, using a combination of historical and horizon scanning data.

A fluorescence "turn-off-on" nanoprobe is designed by using europium-doped strontium molybdate perovskite quantum dots (Eu:SMO PQDs) for the sequential detection of hypoxanthine (Hx) and Fe. The Eu:SMO PQDs were prepared by the sol-gel method using Sr(NO), (NH)MoO.4HO, and Eu(OCOCH) as precursors.

The expansion of single-cell analytical techniques has empowered the exploration of diverse biological questions at the individual cells. Droplet-based single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) methods have been particularly widely used due to their high-throughput capabilities and small reaction volumes. While commercial systems have contributed to the widespread adoption of droplet-based scRNA-seq, their relatively high cost limits the ability to profile large numbers of cells and samples.

: A common problem in pediatric orthopedics is leg length discrepancy (LLD). In adulthood, this may result in overload and degenerative changes in the lumbar spine, hip, and knee joints of the longer limb, and the fixed equinus position of the foot of the shorter limb. Surgical treatment using temporary epiphysiodesis with eight-plate implants is a minimally invasive, safe, and patient-tolerated procedure in LLD.
