Background/purpose: Early detection of severe dengue (SD) and appropriate management are crucial in reducing the case fatality rate. The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of SD and identify independent risk factors associated with mortality among SD patients.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at two medical center hospitals between 2002 and 2019, involving patients aged ≧18 years with laboratory-confirmed SD.

Orthoflaviviruses are emerging arthropod-borne pathogens whose replication cycle is tightly linked to host lipid metabolism. Previous lipidomic studies demonstrated that infection with the closely related hepatitis C virus (HCV) changes the fatty acid (FA) profile of several lipid classes. Lipids in HCV-infected cells had more very long-chain and desaturated FAs and viral replication relied on functional FA elongation and desaturation.

However, breakthrough infections or uncovered strains can still cause vaccine-preventable viral infections (VPVIs). Background Objectives: Co-infection of dengue virus and acute hepatitis A virus in paediatric population is a major health concern in endemic countries. This cross sectional retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence of hepatitis A virus among the clinically dengue suspected paediatric cases presented at our tertiary care centre during the two-year period (2022-2023).
Methods: A total of 747 dengue suspected paediatric clinical specimens were included in this study.

Post-translational modifications play crucial roles in viral infections, yet many potential modifications remain unexplored in orthoflavivirus biology. Here we demonstrate that the UFMylation system, a post-translational modification system that catalyzes the transfer of UFM1 onto proteins, promotes infection by multiple orthoflaviviruses including dengue virus, Zika virus, West Nile virus, and yellow fever virus. We found that depletion of the UFMylation E3 ligase complex proteins UFL1 and UFBP1, as well as other UFMylation machinery components (UBA5, UFC1, and UFM1), significantly reduces infectious virion production for orthoflaviviruses but not the hepacivirus, hepatitis C.
