Sixteen cysticerci excised from 15 surgery patients were examined for the presence of HLA molecules on their surface, to confirm the role of these molecules in parasite damage and to investigate if HLA products are host specific or perhaps host-like antigens synthesized by the parasite. MoAbs against monomorphic and polymorphic HLA were chosen according to the patients HLA phenotypes. MoAbs against host and non-host antigens were selected and tested on cyst slides by indirect immunofluorescence assays. Host molecules were present in 43.7% of the cysts, but non-host antigens were also apparent in 62.5%. These results suggest mimicry as a possible mechanism to explain the presence of MHC products on the surface of the parasite; inflammation may also induce the expression of HLA that could become associated with the parasite. In vitro cellular immune response to specific antigens was also performed and positive responses correlated with the presence of HLA molecules on the cyst's surface. Moreover, damaged parasites had host molecules as well. Parasites from responder patients had all kind of HLA molecules or at least, antigenic determinants while the cysts from non-responders did not have molecules on their surface. These data support the role of HLA in cyst destruction.

The p53 protein is regarded as the "Guardian of the Genome," but its mutation is tumor progression and present in more than half of malignant tumors. The pro-metastatic property of mutant p53 makes a strong argument for targeting mutant p53 with new therapeutic strategies. However, mutant p53 was considered as a challenging target for drug discovery due to the lack of small molecular binding pockets.

Halorhodospira (Hlr.) halophila strain BN9622 is an extremely halophilic and alkaliphilic purple phototrophic bacterium and has been widely used as a model for exploring the osmoadaptive and photosynthetic strategies employed by phototrophic extreme halophiles that enable them to thrive in hypersaline environments. Here we present the cryo-EM structures of (1) a unique native Hlr.

Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and density functional theory (DFT), an experimental and theoretical study of changes in the electronic structure (dispersion dependencies) and corresponding modification of the energy band gap at the Dirac point (DP) for topological insulator (TI) [Formula: see text] have been carried out with gradual replacement of magnetic Mn atoms by non-magnetic Ge atoms when concentration of the latter was varied from 10% to 75%. It was shown that when Ge concentration increases, the bulk band gap decreases and reaches zero plateau in the concentration range of 45-60% while trivial surface states (TrSS) are present and exhibit an energy splitting of 100 and 70 meV in different types of measurements. It was also shown that TSS disappear from the measured band dispersions at a Ge concentration of about 40%.

Suppressing deep-level defects at the perovskite bulk and surface is indispensable for reducing the non-radiative recombination losses and improving efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this study, two Lewis bases based on chalcogen-thiophene (n-Bu4S) and selenophene (n-Bu4Se) having tetra-pyridine as bridge are developed to passivate defects in perovskite film. The uncoordinated Pb and iodine vacancy defects can interact with chalcogen-concave group and pyridine group through the formation of the Lewis acid-base adduct, particularly both the defects can be surrounded by concave molecules, resulting in effective suppression charge recombination.

The VCo-LDH/CS hydrogel beads were created by combining VCo-layered double hydroxide (VCo-LDH) and chitosan (CS) using a cross-linking process with epichlorohydrin. These beads were specifically designed to remove tetracycline (TTC). To characterize the VCo-LDH/CS hydrogel beads, several analytical techniques were used, with PXRD, XPS, FESEM, EDX, and FT-IR.
