Introduction: Africa is the least motorized populated continent, yet it experiences the highest traffic fatality rate. Despite laws mandating helmet and seatbelt use, data on protective gear use among Cameroonian road traffic injury (RTI) patients remains sparse.

Methods: We extracted Cameroon Trauma Registry data prospectively collected from 10 hospitals during July 2022 to December 2023.

Objectives: Motorcycle helmets save lives and reduce serious injury after motorcycle collisions (MCC). In 2022, 18 states had laws requiring helmet use by motorcyclists aged ≥21 years. Our objective was to compare helmet use and head trauma in emergency medical services (EMS) patients involved in MCC in states with and without helmet use laws.

Background: Free functional muscle transfer (FFMT) for brachial plexus injury (BPI) requires adequate donor arterial flow for successful anastomosis. However, concomitant BPI and subclavian artery injury are not uncommon. Arteriovenous (AV) loop graft is one of the methods used to extend vessels to areas with vascular depletion.

Automotive-grade GaN power switches have recently been made available in the market from a growing number of semiconductor suppliers. The exploitation of this technology enables the development of very efficient power converters operating at much higher switching frequencies with respect to components implemented with silicon power devices. Thus, a new generation of automotive power components with an increased power density is expected to replace silicon-based products in the development of higher-performance electric and hybrid vehicles.

Tinnitus prevalence and associations with leisure noise exposure among Canadians, aged 6 to 79 years.

Int J Audiol

January 2025

Environmental Health Science and Research Bureau, Health Canada, Ottawa, Canada.

Objective: To examine the association between individual, cumulative leisure noise exposure (CLNE), acceptable yearly exposure (AYE) and tinnitus among a nationally representative sample of Canadians.

Design: In-person household questionnaires were used to evaluate leisure noise exposure across age, sex, household income and tinnitus: ever experienced, previous year, frequent, bothersome. High (≥85 dBA, LEX), low (<85 dBA, LEX) CLNE and AYEs were defined according to occupational limits.
