Study Objective: This systematic review aims to investigate the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and diabetic kidney disease (DKD).
Methods: MeSH terms and free text searches were performed on MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews from inception to April 2015. Zetoc and OpenGrey databases were queried for grey literature, and lastly, hand searches were carried out. Study selection and quality assessment were conducted by two authors. One author carried out data extraction, which was checked by other authors. The relationships between apneahypopnea index (AHI), oxygen desaturation index (ODI), time spent under 90% oxygen saturation (%TST < 90), and minimum and mean oxygen saturation (O2) on DKD were examined.
Results: Two longitudinal and ten cross-sectional studies were included for our narrative synthesis, and seven studies for meta-analysis. Studies that performed multi-variable analysis demonstrated significant associations between OSA (assessed using either apnea-hypopnea index or ODI) and DKD in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This was confirmed by meta-analysis (pooled OR 1.73, 95% CI: 1.13-2.64). There was some evidence to suggest that %TST < 90 may have an association with DKD. There was insufficient evidence to conclude on the relationship between minimum and mean oxygen saturation on DKD. There was no evidence available on the associations between OSA and other respiratory parameters in type 1 diabetes mellitus populations.
Conclusions: There is moderate evidence that OSA is associated with DKD in patients with T2DM. Large prospective studies with long-term follow up are needed to assess the possible bi-directional mechanisms between OSA and DKD.

Introduction: Cerebral oximetry measurement using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has been highlighted as a technology that can provide noninvasive information on regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) during CPR even though its effectiveness has not been fully confirmed. The research focuses on the use of NIRS to predict the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and neurological outcomes.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the validity of using regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) measurement compared to ETCO2 during CPR to and its association with ROSC, as well as to evaluate the neuroprognostic value of NIRS.

Insight into human physiology is key to maintaining diver safety in underwater operational environments. Numerous hazardous physiological phenomena can occur during the descent, the time at depth, the ascent, and the hours after a dive that can have enduring consequences. While safety measures and strict adherence to dive protocols make these events uncommon, diving disorders still occur, often with insufficient understanding of the factors that triggered the event.

Background And Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent sleep disorder characterized by recurrent upper airway obstruction, leading to disrupted sleep and various health complications. Positional OSA (POSA) refers to patients whose OSA severity is significantly influenced by body position, especially when lying supine. This study aimed to evaluate the polysomnographic characteristics of POSA and non-positional OSA (non-POSA) and to assess their clinical implications.

Ascites syndrome (AS) is a deadly condition in fast-growing chickens, preceded by pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), where the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (ATR1) plays a role. We investigated whether allicin (ALLI), a garlic derivative, could (a) interact with broiler ATR1, (b) affect ascites-related traits [haematocrit content (Hct%), blood oxygen saturation (SaO), and the right-to-total ventricular weight ratio (RV:TV)], (c) modify ATR1 expression in the lung, heart, and liver, alongside ascites mortality and growth performance in Ross 308 broilers raised at high altitude and under cold temperatures promoting PAH/AS. Three groups (n = 70 each) were studied: 0-ALLI (untreated), 1-ALLI (allicin 1 mg/kg body weight/daily at 14-27 days of age by oral-oesophageal route), and 2.

The aim of this paper was to systematically review and compare the Apnoea-Hypopnoea Index (AHI), Lowest O Saturation (LSAT), Oxygen Desaturation Index (ODI), Epworth Sleep Scale (ESS), and Body Mass Index (BMI) between dentofacial (skeletal) classes I, II, and III before and after maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). The PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL databases were searched from inception to 23 November 2022. Two reviewers screened for articles that reported occlusion/malocclusion class type as I, II, or III, and reported preoperative and postoperative AHI, LSAT, ODI, ESS, and/or BMI.
