We illustrate a novel impedance immunosensor which rapidly and sensitively detects typhoid-causing infectious bacteria Salmonella enterica serovar (Salmonella typhi) in 10 μL of sample volume. The bacteria are tagged with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) via high-affinity antigen-antibody interactions for enhanced signal amplification and selectivity. The cell-particle bioconjugates are then subjected to alternating current (AC) electric fields applied through interdigitated microelectrodes. The immunosensor performance is optimized with respect to electric field frequency, cell concentration, incubation times and the type of blocking agent to achieve a low limit of detection (LOD) of 100 CFU/mL. The approach is extendable to a wide spectrum of clinical diseases and offers an efficient and cost-effective solution for point-of-care diagnosis.

Background: Aleutian mink disease, mink viral enteritis and canine distemper are known as the three most serious diseases that cause great economic loss in the mink industry. In clinical practice, aleutian mink disease virus (AMDV), mink enteritis virus (MEV) and canine distemper virus (CDV) are common mixed infections, and they have similar clinical clinical signs, such as diarrhoea. Therefore, a rapid and accurate differential diagnosis method for use on mink ranches is essential for the control of these three pathogens.

Background: Point of need diagnostics provide efficient testing capability for remote or austere locations, decreasing the time to answer by minimizing travel or sample transport requirements. Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is an appealing technology for point-of-need diagnostics due to its rapid analysis time and minimal instrumentation requirements.
Methods: Here, we designed and optimized nine LAMP assays that are sensitive and specific to targeted bacterial select agents including Bacillus anthracis, Francisella tularensis, Yersinia pestis, and Brucella spp.

Self-supported ultrathin PtRuMoCoNi high-entropy alloy nanowires (HEANWs) were synthesized by a one-pot co-reduction method, whose peroxidase (POD)-like activity and catalytic mechanism were elaborated in detail. As expected, the PtRuMoCoNi HEANWs showed excellent POD-like activity. It can quickly catalyze the oxidization of colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue TMB through decomposition of HO to superoxide radicals.

Pursuing nanomaterials with high fluorescence quantum yields is of great significance in the fields of bioimaging, medical diagnosis, and food safety monitoring. This work reports on orange-emitting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) integrated with blue-emitting nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs), which enables highly sensitive detection of S and Zn ions through an off-on ratiometric fluorescence method. The highly emissive Cu NCs was doped by Ce with a high quantum yield of 51.

Fabry disease (FD) is a rare disorder resulting from a genetic mutation characterized by the accumulation of sphingolipids in various cells throughout the human body, leading to progressive and irreversible organ damage, particularly in males. Genetically-determined deficiency or reduced activity of the enzyme (alpha - Galactosidase; α-Gal) leads to the accumulation of sphingolipids in the lysosomes of various cell types, including the heart, kidneys, skin, eyes, central nervous system, and digestive system, triggering damage, leading to the failure of vital organs, and resulting in progressive disability and premature death. FD diagnostics currently depend on costly and time-intensive genetic tests and enzymatic analysis, often leading to delayed or inaccurate diagnoses, which contribute to rapid disease progression.
