The effect of functional groups such as sulfuric acid group and metal ions on the CO2 gas transport property of membranes was investigated. Sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) (SPAES) was prepared by direct copolymerization with a non-sulfonated monomer and sulfonated monomer. The sulfonation degree of SPAES was controlled from 0 to 50%. Metal ions such as lithium and sodium were substituted for the protons of the -SO3H group. The thermal properties, microstructure of polymer chains, and the permeability and selectivity of membranes were evaluated. The solubility coefficient of CO2 gas increased with an increase in sulfonation degree. But the diffusivity was largely decreased and the CO2/N2 selectivity of the membrane substituted for metal ions was increased.

To assess respiratory changes after neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) initiation in preterm infants with evolving or established bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Premature infants born less than 32 weeks gestation with evolving or established BPD initiated on invasive or non-invasive (NIV) NAVA were included. Respiratory data: PCO and SpO₂/FiO₂ (S/F) ratio before and at 4, 24, 48 h post-NAVA initiation were collected.

Membrane-based gas separation provides an energy-efficient approach for the simultaneous CO and HS removal from sour natural gas. The fluorinated polyimide (PI) membranes exhibited a promising balance between permeability and permselectivity for sour natural gas separation. To further improve the separation efficiency of fluorinated PI membranes, a melamine-copolymerization synthetic approach is devised that aims to incorporate melamine motifs with high sour gas affinity into the structure of the PI membranes.

Photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into value-added chemicals offers a propitious alternative to traditional thermal methods, contributing to environmental remediation and energy sustainability. In this respect, covalent organic frameworks (COFs), are crystalline porous materials showcasing remarkable efficacy in CO2 fixation facilitated by visible light owing to their excellent photochemical properties. Herein, we employed Lewis acidic Zn(II) anchored pyrene-based COF (Zn(II)@Pybp-COF) to facilitate the photocatalytic CO2 utilization and transformation to 2-oxazolidinones.

Continuous Electrochemical Carbon Capture via Redox-Mediated pH Swing─Experimental Performance and Process Modeling.

J Phys Chem Lett

January 2025

Department of Process Engineering and Technology of Polymer and Carbon Materials, Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Wyb. St. Wyspiańskiego 27, 50-370 Wrocław, Poland.

We investigate a continuous electrochemical pH-swing method to capture CO from a gas phase. The electrochemical cell consists of a single cation-exchange membrane (CEM) and a recirculation of a mixture of salt and phenazine-based redox-active molecules. In the absorption compartment, this solution is saturated by CO from a mixed gas phase at high pH.

Interest in carbon dioxide (CO) sensors is growing rapidly due to the increasing awareness of the link between air quality and health. Indoor, high CO levels signal poor ventilation, and outdoor the burning of fossil fuels and its associated pollution. CO gas sensors based on integrated optical waveguides are a promising solution due to their excellent gas sensing selectivity, compact size, and potential for mass manufacturing large volumes at low cost.
