Mammalian hibernation offers a unique model for exploring neuroprotective mechanisms relevant to neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we employed untargeted lipidomics with iterative tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) to profile the brain lipidome of Syrian hamsters across different hibernation stages: late torpor, arousal, and euthermia (control). Previously, a lipid species identified as methyl-PA(16:0/0:0) showed a significant increase during torpor, but its precise structure was unresolved due to technological constraints.

Menstrual pain affects women's quality of life and productivity, yet objective molecular markers for its severity have not been established owing to the variability in blood levels and chemical properties of potential markers such as plasma steroid hormones, lipid mediators, and hydrophilic metabolites. To address this, we conducted a metabolomics study using five analytical methods to identify biomarkers that differentiate menstrual pain severity. This study included 20 women, divided into mild (N = 12) and severe (N = 8) pain groups based on their numerical pain rating scale.

Wine contains micro-constituents of proper quality and quantity that exert cardioprotective actions, partly through inhibiting platelet-activating factor (PAF), a potent inflammatory and thrombotic lipid mediator. 2-arachnadoyl glycerol (2-AG) is one of the most common endocannabinoid molecules with anti-proliferative, cytotoxic, and pro-proliferative effects on different types of tumors. Typically, it induces cell death via cannabinoid receptor 1/2 (CB1/CB2)-linked ceramide production. In breast cancer, ceramide is counterbalanced by the sphingosine-1-phosphate, and thus the mechanisms of 2-AG influence on proliferation are poorly understood.
