Efficacy and safety of Ayurveda interventions for sinusitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

J Complement Integr Med

June 2023

Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), New Delhi, India.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Ayurveda interventions for sinusitis by reviewing multiple research databases and including relevant clinical trials.
  • A total of 2,824 records were examined, but only nine clinical trials met the criteria, with no comparisons to placebo or non-Ayurveda treatments; combined Ayurveda therapy showed some benefits in reducing symptoms like nasal discharge and headache.
  • Despite some positive outcomes in individual studies, overall certainty regarding the efficacy and safety of Ayurveda for sinusitis was low, highlighting the need for better-designed clinical research.

Purpose Of The Study: The National Health Service is experiencing a recruitment crisis across many medical specialties. Diabetes and endocrinology (D&E) is failing to fill training posts with only 77%, 83% and 73% of posts filled overall in 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Study Design: We surveyed 316 final-year medical students and undifferentiated trainees (from foundation programme doctors to core medical trainees), across the South Thames, Northern and West Midlands deaneries in England to gain an understanding of perceptions of the specialty.

Background: Simulation is increasingly being used in postgraduate medical education as an opportunity for competency assessment. However, there is limited direct evidence that supports performance in the simulation lab as a surrogate of workplace-based clinical performance for non-procedural tasks such as resuscitation in the emergency department (ED). We sought to directly compare entrustment scoring of resident performance in the simulation environment to clinical performance in the ED.

Background: Despite improving experience and techniques, ischemic and bleeding complications after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) remain prevalent and impair survival. Current guidelines recommend the temporary addition of clopidogrel in the initial period after TAVI to prevent thromboembolic events. However, explorative studies suggest that this is associated with a higher rate of major bleeding without a decrease in thromboembolic complications.
