In this work, we demonstrate a refractometric fiber sensor with improved sensitivity for refractive indices ranging from 1.3629 to 1.4479. The device relies on the coupling between a long period grating (LPG) transducer and a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). Sensor operation is based on the transference of energy from LPG cladding modes at the visible spectral range to the LSPR. The transducer consists of a long period grating 3.15-mm-long covered with 2-7 nm gold nanoparticles. The sensor is intensity coded at a 568 nm wavelength, presenting sensitivity of 208%/unit of refractive index for a refractive index of 1.39 and resolution better than 0.0003 for the dynamic range of refractive indices from 1.3629 to 1.4479.

A localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor based on tapered optical fiber (TOF) using hollow gold nanoparticles (HAuNPs) for measuring the refractive index (RI) is presented. This optical fiber sensor is a good candidate for a label-free RI biosensor. In practical biosensors, bioreceptors are immobilized on nanoparticles (NPs) that only absorb specific biomolecules.

Photonic crystals (PC) play a key role in optical field modulation due to their unique photonic band gaps (PBGs). Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) prepared by pulse anodization is a promising candidate for PC devices. In this research, an AAO-based PC with multi-band was fabricated on a single-slice & single-material film, which exhibits multi-band responses in the visible-to-near-infrared (vis-NIR) region.

The complex dynamics of terahertz (THz) wave scattering by subwavelength-scale structures remain largely unexplored. This article examines the spectral scattering characteristics of subwavelength-sized spherical particles probed by tightly focused THz waves through numerical simulations and experimental techniques. The simulations reveal that the scattering intensity for lower Mie resonance modes (magnetic dipole and electric dipole modes) remains largely unaffected when THz waves are focused down to 0.

Purpose: To investigate the effectiveness and safety of accelerated epithelium-on crosslinking to stabilize tomographically suspicious fellow eyes of young patients with unilateral clinically evident keratoconus (KC) compared with observation alone.
Methods: This retrospective observational study included 43 fellow eyes of 43 young patients with unilateral clinically evident KC who completed a 24-month follow-up. Twenty-four eyes underwent accelerated epithelium-on crosslinking [epi-on corneal crosslinking (CXL) group] and 19 eyes were observed (observation group).
