Objective: To determine health-state utility (HSU) values for type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with various clinical conditions in China, and to examine how these conditions are correlated with HSU values.

Methods: A consecutive sample of T2D patients was recruited from a tertiary hospital in Suzhou, China. HSU values of T2D patients were measured using the EQ-5D-5L, a new version of the EQ-5D. T2D patients' clinical data were collected from the survey and the clinical examination; sociodemographic data were obtained from the survey. Ordinary least square (OLS) models were employed to estimate the impact of clinical conditions on HSU values controlling for sociodemographic conditions. Nonparametric biased-corrected and accelerated (BCA) bootstrap was used to calculate the 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Results: A total of 289 T2D patients provided data. The mean HSU value of the sample was 0.876 (standard deviation: 0.14), with a median of 0.895 (range: -0.063 to 1). Using the OLS model and BCA bootstrap, the impact of significant conditions on HSU values and 95% CIs are as follows: neuropathy (-0.057, [-0.093, -0.017]), heart disease (-0.074, [-0.122, -0.018]), cerebrovascular disease (-0.160, [-0.287, -0.030]), and increasing diabetes duration (-0.004, [-0.007, -0.001]).

Conclusion: The HSU values estimated can be used to assess the cost-effectiveness of health care interventions for T2D patients in China.

The largest risk factor for dementia is age. Heterochronic blood exchange studies have uncovered age-related blood factors that demonstrate 'pro-aging' or 'pro-youthful' effects on the mouse brain. The clinical relevance and combined effects of these factors for humans is unclear.

Anticounterfeiting technologies have become increasingly crucial due to the growing issue of counterfeit goods, particularly in high-value industries. Traditional methods such as barcodes and holograms are prone to replication, prompting the need for advanced, cost-effective, and efficient solutions. In this work, a practical application of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes are presented for anticounterfeiting, which addresses the challenges of high production costs and complex fabrication processes.

The transition to college is associated with rising rates of depressive symptoms and decreased well-being. It is critical to identify protective psychological factors for this period. One possible protective factor is psychological flexibility, or the ability to pursue self-identified values despite distressing thoughts and emotions.

Coronary artery calcification (CAC) is a key marker of coronary artery disease (CAD) but is often underreported in cancer patients undergoing non-gated CT or PET/CT scans. Traditional CAC assessment requires gated CT scans, leading to increased radiation exposure and the need for specialized personnel. This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) method to automatically detect CAC from non-gated, freely-breathing, low-dose CT images obtained from positron emission tomography/computed tomography scans.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia, USA.

Objectives: The trend of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), a biomarker of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease), remains poorly described for the pediatric population because no widely accepted cutoffs are available to categorize ALT value. We described the nuanced changes in the distribution of ALT continuous values.

Study Design: We analyzed the data from 15,702 adolescents aged 12-19 who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys between 1988 and 2020.
