A quasi-experimental study of trigger films for teaching the doctor-patient relationship.

Indian J Med Ethics

January 2025

Director Professor, Department of Physiology, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi University, Delhi, INDIA.

Background: It is challenging to teach the complexity of the doctor-patient relationship through attitude, ethics, and communication (AETCOM) modules, particularly without being formally trained and especially to first-year medical students who do not interact directly with patients. The present study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of trigger films (TFs) or short movie clips as a teaching-learning tool to train undergraduate medical students on various aspects of doctor-patient relationships.

Methods: Two modules on various aspects of the doctor-patient relationship were developed using TFs and written case studies and implemented on Phase Ⅰ medical students.

Alkylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are abundant constituents of many PAH mixtures and contribute to risk at contaminated sites. Despite their abundance, the movement of alkylated PAHs remains understudied relative to unsubstituted PAHs. In the present study, passive sampling devices were deployed in the air, water, and sediments at 11 locations across multiple seasons to capture spatial and temporal variability in the abundance and movement of alkylated PAHs at a Brownsfield creosote site in Oregon, USA.

Nanotechnology has emerged as a revolutionary domain with diverse applications in medicine, and one of the noteworthy developments is the exploration of bacterial magnetosomes acquired from magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) for therapeutic purposes. The demand for natural nanomaterials in the biomedical field is continuously increasing due to their biocompatibility and eco-friendly nature. MTB produces uniform, well-ordered magnetic nanoparticles inside the magnetosomes, drawing attention due to their unique and remarkable features.

Development of an antimicrobial tissue conditioner with quaternary ammonium methacryloxy silane (K18): An in vitro study.

J Prosthodont Res

January 2025

Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, UT Health San Antonio, San Antonio, USA.

Purpose: To determine the effects of K18 quaternary ammonium methacryloxy silane (QAS) on tissue conditioner materials and their antimicrobial properties.

Methods: 30% K18 QAS in methyl methacrylate (MMA; K18-MMA; 0%, 15%, and 20% w/w) was incorporated into a commercial tissue conditioner (Coe comfort). The degree of curing (Shore A hardness), hydrophilicity (contact angle), flow, liquid sorption, mass loss, and antimicrobial properties of Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguinis, and Candida albicans were determined.
