Purpose: To investigate the concentration of IL-35 in serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and the correlation between IL-35 and periodontal clinical parameters, and explore the possible role of IL-35 in chronic periodontitis (CP).

Methods: Twenty patients with moderate or severe chronic periodontitis were selected as experimental group and 20 healthy people were included as control group. The patients' baseline information, probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment level (CAL) were recorded. Their serum and GCF were collected and then the concentration of IL-35 in GCF and serum were detected by ELISA. SPSS19.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.

Results: The concentration of IL-35 in GCF and serum of chronic periodontitis were significantly higher than the control group (P<0.001). There was significant negative correlation between IL-35 and clinical parameters.

Conclusions: Chronic periodontitis may increase the concentration of IL-35 in serum and GCF; IL-35 level is negatively correlated with periodontitis.

This study examines the diagnostic utility of the combined interleukin-33 (IL-33), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), and interleukin-35 (IL-35) test in tuberculous pleural effusion. Forty patients with pleural effusion of unknown etiology admitted to the hospital between December 2020 and December 2023 were selected as the study group. The patients were further categorized into tuberculous (TB) (n = 20) and malignant (n = 20) groups on the basis of their relevant data, while sera from 20 healthy medical checkups were used as control group.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on people living with HIV (PLWH) in Africa, focusing on T-cell variations and inflammatory profiles during COVID-19 hospitalization.
  • Among 174 patients studied, 21% were PLWH, who were generally younger and more likely to be female compared to those without HIV.
  • Findings reveal that PLWH had unique T-cell characteristics and inflammatory markers, indicating differing immune responses depending on their CD4+ T-cell counts, suggesting a need for tailored treatment approaches.

BACKGROUND Adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) from intra-articular adipose tissue of osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients similarly regulate the proliferation of activated CD4⁺ T lymphocytes and exhibit comparable differentiation potential. This study aimed to assess the impact of ASCs from RA patients on CD4⁺ T cell activation and differentiation into Th17 and T regulatory (Treg) cells. MATERIAL AND METHODS Intra-articular adipose tissue samples were obtained from patients with RA and OA, who underwent knee replacement surgery.

Background: This study compared the concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-17, and IL-35 in the gingival crevicular fluid of periodontally healthy participants with individuals who had stage III and IV periodontitis.

Methods: In total, 60 participants with stage III grade B-C (n = 12)-stage IV grade C (n = 18) periodontitis and 30 healthy controls were included in this cross-sectional study. Full-mouth clinical periodontal measurements were performed.

Department of Basic Medical Sciences/ Immunology, College of Medicine, University of Sulaimani, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus is growing globally and the management of diabetes is a critical issue for public health. This study aimed to analyze the concentration of different biomarkers in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) without complication, T2DM patients with complication (T2DM+C), and compared to healthy controls (HC). For this aim, there were 164 participants: 59 T2DM, 60 T2DM+C, and 45 HC.
