Purpose: To investigate effects of acid etching, adhesives, brackets and debonding process on tooth color during direct bonding technique.

Methods: One hundred freshly extracted premolars were divided into blank control, acid etching, adhesive, acid etching+adhesive and acid etching+adhesive+bracket group. Computerized colorimeter was utilized to evaluate L*, a* and b* of tooth color parameters before treatment, 7 days and 30 days after treatment. SPSS 16.0 software package was utilized for statistical analysis.

Results: At 7 day, ΔE** value in all experimental groups were significantly higher than blank control group. ΔE* values of acid etching+adhesive+bracket group, and acid etching group were greater than 3.3, showing that recognizable clinic change was observed, but no significant difference was observed between the 2 groups. At 30 d, for ΔE* value, acid etching+adhesive+bracket group > acid etching group, and acid etching+adhesive group > adhesive group > blank control group. Recognizable clinic change was observed in all experimental groups (ΔE*>3.3).

Conclusions: In fixed orthodontic procedures, acid etching and metal erosion resulting from long time wearing braces are two important factors leading to enamel discoloration, and adhesives removing procedures may also affect tooth discoloration.

Objective: To study the durability of the anti-demineralization effects of fluoride varnish after being applied to dental root surfaces.

Methods: Coronal and radicular dentin samples were prepared from extracted human teeth. Duraphat (DP) was applied to the dentine surfaces to form a protective film.

Organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) severely pollute various environmental water due to their excessive use, and it is extremely urgent to develop novel adsorbents with high adsorption capacities, rapid removal rate and easily recovery for the removal of OPPs. In this study, defect-rich Co/N-doped hierarchically porous carbons (Co/N-DHPCs) were constructed by pyrolyzing acid-etched ZIF-67 precursor. The developed Co/N-DHPCs possessed rich defects, well-developed hierarchical porous structure, high specific surface area and excellent magnetic property, and exhibited large adsorption capacities of 103.

Background: Short dentin etching, a relatively recent technique, aims to improve resin-dentin bonding by preserving hydroxyapatite crystals within the collagen spaces. This study explores short dentin etching's potential in mitigating over-etching issues in deep proximal dentin/cementum margins, an aspect not previously investigated. This study evaluates the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) and marginal adaptation of two universal adhesives using different etch-and-rinse strategies (15-second and 3-second etching) and self-etch strategies, both immediate and post-thermal cycling and mechanical loading.

The role of aging and various surface preparation methods in the repair of nanohybrid composites.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Restorative Dentistry, Gazi University, Bişkek St. 1. St. Number: 8 Emek, Ankara, Turkey.

Background: Repairing composite resins is a less invasive alternative to complete restoration replacement. To achieve a successful bond between the existing and newly applied composite materials, various surface preparation methods, such as sandblasting and acid etching, have been explored. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments on the repair bond strength of a universal nanohybrid composite resin restorative material before and after thermal aging, by utilizing a micro-shear bond strength (µSBS) test.
