Metal and metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) supported on high surface area carbon (NP/Cs) were prepared by the physical vapor deposition of bulk materials on an α-D-glucose (Glu) substrate, followed by the deposition of the NPs on carbon supports. Using Glu as a carrier for the transport of NPs from the bulk materials to the carbon support surfaces, ultrafine NPs were obtained, exhibiting a stabilizing effect through OH moieties on the Glu surfaces. This stabilizing effect was strong enough to stabilize the NPs, but weak enough to not significantly block the metal surfaces. As only the target materials and Glu are required in our procedure, it can be considered environmentally friendly, with the NPs being devoid of hazardous chemicals. Furthermore, the resulting NP/Cs exhibited an improvement in activity for various electrochemical reactions, mainly attributed to their high surface area.

Ignition of the lubricating fluid in a mechanical system is a highly undesirable and unsafe condition that can arise from the elevated temperatures and pressures to which the lubricant is subjected. It is therefore important to understand the fundamental chemistry behind its ignition to predict and prevent this condition. Lubricating oils, particularly those with a mineral oil base, are very complex mixtures of thousands of hydrocarbons.

Spontaneous bubble growths in liquids are usually triggered by rapid changes in pressure or temperature that can lead to liquid gas supersaturation. Here, we report alternative scenarios of the spontaneous growths of bubbles inside a high-saturation-vapor-pressure and high-air-solubility perfluorocarbon liquid (PP1) that were observed under ambient quiescent conditions. First, we investigate spontaneous bubble growth inside the single PP1 phase, which was left to evaporate freely.

The discovery of two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals ferromagnetic materials opens up new avenues for making devices with high information storage density, ultra-fast response, high integration, and low power consumption. FeGeTe has attracted much attention because of its ferromagnetic transition temperature near room temperature. However, the investigation of its phase transition is rare until now.

The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CORR) offers potential for sustainable production and greenhouse gas mitigation, particularly with renewable energy integration. However, its widespread application is hindered by expensive catalysts, low selectivity, and limited current density. This study addresses these challenges by developing a low-mass-loading two-dimensional (2D) BiOSe catalyst chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

Background: 3D cellular structures have been considered the following step in the evaluation of drugs penetration after 2D cultures since they are more physiologically representative in cancer cell biology. Here the penetration capabilities of Pt (IV)-loaded ultrasmall iron oxide nanoparticles in 143B osteosarcoma multicellular spheroids of different sizes is conducted by a multidimensional quantitative approach. Single cell (SC) and imaging techniques (laser ablation, LA) coupled to inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) are used to visualize their penetration pathways and distribution in comparison to those of cisplatin.
