A metal to insulator transition in integer or half integer charge systems can be regarded as crystallization of charges. The insulating state tends to have a glassy nature when randomness or geometrical frustration exists. We report that the charge glass state is realized in a perovskite compound PbCrO3, which has been known for almost 50 years, without any obvious inhomogeneity or triangular arrangement in the charge system. PbCrO3 has a valence state of Pb(2+)(0.5)Pb(4+)(0.5)Cr(3+)O3 with Pb(2+)-Pb(4+) correlation length of three lattice-spacings at ambient condition. A pressure induced melting of charge glass and simultaneous Pb-Cr charge transfer causes an insulator to metal transition and ∼10% volume collapse.

Zwitterionic polymers have garnered significant attention for their distinctive properties, such as biocompatibility, antifouling capabilities, and resistance to protein adsorption, making them promising candidates for a wide range of applications, including drug delivery, oil production inhibitors, and water purification membranes. This study reports the synthesis and characterization of zwitterionic monomers and polymers through the modification of linear, vinyl, and aromatic heterocyclic functional groups via reaction with 1,3-propanesultone. Four zwitterionic polymers with varying molecular structures-ranging from linear to five and six membered ring systems-were synthesized: poly(sulfobetaine methacrylamide) (pSBMAm), poly(sulfobetaine-1-vinylimidazole) (pSB1VI), poly(sulfobetaine-2-vinylpyridine) (pSB2VP), and poly(sulfobetaine-4-vinylpyridine) (pSB4VP).

A challenging topic in materials engineering is the development of numerical models that can accurately predict material properties with atomistic accuracy, matching the scale and level of detail achieved by experiments. In this regard, coarse-grained (CG) molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are a popular method for achieving this goal. Despite the efforts of the scientific community, a reliable CG model with quasi-atomistic accuracy has not yet been fully achieved for the design and prototyping of materials, especially polymers.

This study introduces the development of a W-M electrochromic film, characterized by a "coral"-like TiO@WO heterostructure, synthesized via a hydrothermal process leveraging the inherent instability of MXene. The film showcases exceptional electrochromic performance, with a coloring response time of 2.8 s, a bleaching response time of 4.

This study describes a microfluidic thread-based analytical device (μTAD) capable of in situ mass spectrometric analysis for continuous flow reaction monitoring. Organic reaction screening is foundational to drug discovery. Microfluidic devices are of special interest here because they provide continuous reaction monitoring with advantages such as the use of smaller reagent volumes and short analysis times.
