Article Abstract

Objective: Development of an Italian matrix sentence test for the assessment of speech intelligibility in noise.

Design: The development of the test included the selection, recording, optimization with level adjustment, and evaluation of speech material. The training effect was assessed adaptively during the evaluation measurements with six lists of 20 sentences, using open- and closed-set response formats. Reference data were established for normal-hearing listeners with adaptive measurements. Equivalence of the test lists was investigated using the open-set response format at three signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs).

Study Sample: A total of 55 normal-hearing Italian mother-tongue listeners.

Results: The evaluation measurements at fixed SNRs resulted in a mean speech reception threshold (SRT) of -7.3 ± 0.2 dB SNR and slope of 13.3 ± 1.2 %/dB. The major training effect of 1.5 dB was observed for the first two consecutive measurements. Mean SRTs of -6.7 ± 0.7 dB SNR and -7.4 ± 0.7 dB SNR were found from the third to the sixth adaptive measurement for open- and closed-set test response formats, respectively.

Conclusions: A good agreement has been found between the SRTs and slope and those of other matrix tests. Since sentences are difficult to memorize, the Italian matrix test is suitable for repeated measurements.

Collagen is a crucial protein in the extracellular matrix (ECM) essential for preserving tissue architecture and supporting crucial cellular functions like proliferation and differentiation. There are twenty-eight identified types of collagen, which are further divided into different subgroups. This protein plays a critical role in regulating tissue homeostasis.

Background: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare condition in which normal spongy and cortical bone is replaced by non-neoplastic fibrous tissue, leading to weakened bone matrix and increased risk of pathological fractures and deformities. Treating these deformities poses a significant challenge for surgeons. While various cases of surgical stabilization and limb lengthening using intramedullary nails have been reported, there is limited evidence on the use of Motorized Intramedullary Limb-Lengthening Nails (MILLNs) in FD patients.

UVB radiation induces DNA damage generating several thymine photo-adducts (TDPs), which can lead to mutations and cellular transformation. The DNA repair pathways preserve genomic stability by recognizing and removing photodamage. These DNA repair side products may affect cellular processes.

This research is focused on the formulation and testing of green visual pH-sensitive indicators based on natural extracts from Curcuma Longa (CUR) and Lambrusco wine pomace (LAM), an Italian wine variety, incorporated into rice starch/pectin/alginate matrixes for non-destructively detecting shrimps freshness in real-time. The effect of the mixed indicators and their synergic combination on the properties and performances of indicators was investigated. Both the extracts and their combination showed pronounced pH responsiveness.

Clinical, neuroimaging and genomics evidence have increasingly underscored a degree of overlap between autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This study explores the specific contribution of their core symptoms to shared biology in a sample of N=166 verbal children (6-12 years) with rigorously-established primary diagnoses of either autism or ADHD (without autism). We investigated the associations between inter-individual differences in clinician-based dimensional measures of autism and ADHD symptoms and whole-brain low motion intrinsic functional connectivity (iFC).
