Carbon materials containing magnetic nanopowder have been attractive in technological applications such as electrochemical capacitors and electromagnetic wave shielding. In this study, polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers containing nickel nanoparticles were prepared using an electrospinning method and thermal stabilization. The reduction of nickel oxide was investigated under a nitrogen atmosphere within a temperature range of 600 to 1,000 °C. Carbon nanofibers containing nickel nanoparticles were characterized by FE-SEM, EDS, XRD, TGA, and VSM. It was found that nickel nanoparticles were formed by a NiO reduction in PAN as a function of the thermal treatment. These results led to an increase in the coercivity of nanofibers and a decrease in the remanence magnetization.

Constructing fast electron transfer pathways and abundant electro-active sites is an effective strategy to improve the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance of catalysts. Herein, structural engineering and dual-phase engineering were employed to construct a NiS nanoparticle-encapsulated MOF configured with a pseudo-neuronal structure (NiS/MOF/HT). It was found that the pseudo-neuronal structure, constructed with a carbon nanohorn (CNH) and carbon nanotube (CNT), provided fast electron transfer pathways and abundant exposed active sites.

Nanoparticles are essential for energy storage, catalysis, and medical applications, emphasizing their accurate chemical characterization. However, atom probe tomography (APT) of nanoparticles sandwiched at the interface between an encapsulating film and a substrate poses difficulties. Poor adhesion at the film-substrate interface can cause specimen fracture during APT, while impurities may introduce additional peaks in the mass spectra.

NiO, a wide band gap hole-transporting material (HTM), is gaining attention in photovoltaics due to its optical transparency, chemical stability, and favourable band alignment with absorber. This study uses NiO nanoparticle-based HTM in semi-transparent SbS solar cells via a simple chemical precipitation method. We optimised NiO layer by varying precursor solution concentration and studied its impact on optical and structural properties, composition of nanoparticles and subsequent effect on the performance of semi-transparent SbS solar cell.

Carbon dots doped with metals and non-metals have gained much popularity due to the enhancement in their optical and electronic properties. In this study, polyethyleneimine-functionalized transition metal (nickel or copper) doped carbon dots (CD, NiCD and CuCD) were synthesized through hydrothermal method. The carbon dots exhibited a blue fluorescence at 470 nm when excited at 350 nm.
