Fast tool servo/ slow tool servo (FTS/STS) diamond turning is a very promising technique for the generation of freeform optics. However, the currently adopted constant scheme for azimuth sampling and side-feeding motion possesses no adaptation to surface shape variation, leading to the non-uniform surface quality and low machining efficiency. To overcome this defect, this paper reports on a novel adaptive tool servo (ATS) diamond turning technique which is essentially based on the novel two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) FTS/STS. In the ATS, the sampling interval and the side-feeding motion are actively controlled at any cutting point to adapt the machining process to shape variation of the desired surface, making both the sampling induced interpolation error and the side-feeding induced residual tool mark be within the desired tolerances. Characteristic of the required cutting motion suggests that besides the conventional z-axis servo motion, another servo motion along the x-axis synthesizing by the c-axis is mandatory for implementing the ATS. Comparative studies of surface generation of typical micro-structured surfaces in FTS/STS and ATS are thoroughly conducted both theoretically and experimentally. The result demonstrates that the ATS outperforms the FTS/STS with improved surface quality while simultaneously enhanced machining efficiency.

Amidst the accelerating pace of automation in sheet metal bending, the need for small-batch, multi-varietal, efficient, and adaptable production modalities has become increasingly pronounced. To address this need and to enhance the efficacy of the bending process, this study presents the design and development of an embedded soft PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) rooted in the Codesys development platform and leveraging the ARM Cortex-A55 architecture. This controller employs the EtherCAT communication protocol to facilitate seamless and efficient interactions with fully electric servo-driven CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) bending machinery.

The pH neutralization process is a concrete decisive unit in major reactor units of industrial process control loops. This article presents a new fuzzy-based hybrid 'Bond Graph-Temporal Convolution Network' (BG-TCN) model, structured for the convoluted dynamics of a real-time pH neutralization unit, known for its complexity and high nonlinearity. The TCN scheme suggested in this article, exploits a one-dimensional causal convolution strategy within a residual learning framework to execute dilated causal convolutions through time series data analysis.

Cells in the body are regularly subjected to mechanical forces that influence their biological fate in terms of morphology, gene expression, and differentiation. The current gold standard method to replicate these effects in vitro is to culture cells on devices with elastic substrates and to impart mechanical stretch using mechanical or pneumatic pull-push methods. Microfluidic device designs offer several advantages in this context for general uniform and controlled stretching.

Background: Since its development in the 1980 s, chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond has found wide application in addressing various engineering challenges, owing to its outstanding characteristics, including exceptionally high hardness, excellent thermal conductivity, and remarkable stability. Notably, processing tools utilizing CVD diamond as the working material exhibit substantial potential for application in the field of mechanical manufacturing. Serving as a viable substitute for natural diamond, CVD diamond processing tools not only offer advantages in production costs but also ensure processing performance on par with natural diamonds.

To further enhance the performance of the fast tool servo (FTS) system in terms of stroke, load capacity, and application area, this paper proposes a novel fast tool servo device driven by a voice coil motor (VCM), based on a three-segment uniform corrugated flexure (CF) guiding mechanism, with a large stroke, high accuracy, and high dynamics. To describe the unified static characteristics of such device, the compliance matrix method is applied to establish its model, where the influence of CF beam structural parameters on the FTS device is investigated in detail. Furthermore, resolution and positioning accuracy tests are conducted to validate the features of the system.
