Synaptic vesicle fusion is mediated by SNARE proteins forming in between synaptic vesicle (v-SNARE) and plasma membrane (t-SNARE), one of which is Syntaxin-1A. Although exocytosis mainly occurs at active zones, Syntaxin-1A appears to cover the entire neuronal membrane. By using STED super-resolution light microscopy and image analysis of Drosophila neuro-muscular junctions, we show that Syntaxin-1A clusters are more abundant and have an increased size at active zones. A computational particle-based model of syntaxin cluster formation and dynamics is developed. The model is parametrized to reproduce Syntaxin cluster-size distributions found by STED analysis, and successfully reproduces existing FRAP results. The model shows that the neuronal membrane is adjusted in a way to strike a balance between having most syntaxins stored in large clusters, while still keeping a mobile fraction of syntaxins free or in small clusters that can efficiently search the membrane or be traded between clusters. This balance is subtle and can be shifted toward almost no clustering and almost complete clustering by modifying the syntaxin interaction energy on the order of only 1 kBT. This capability appears to be exploited at active zones. The larger active-zone syntaxin clusters are more stable and provide regions of high docking and fusion capability, whereas the smaller clusters outside may serve as flexible reserve pool or sites of spontaneous ectopic release.

The case report explores the effects of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) on body composition, lean muscle mass, and fat mass, based on the dosage of TRT and exercise intensity in a 40-year-old male. The purpose of this case study was to evaluate the dose-response relationship of TRT and exercise on muscle hypertrophy and fat loss over an eight-month period, using a validated wrist-worn wearable fitness tracker to measure daily physical activity and heart rate (HR)-based exercise intensity. The patient, a trained male with 25 years of consistent exercise experience, reported notable declines in strength and increases in body fat despite maintaining a regular workout routine.

Herein, we adopt a feasible method to synthesize the CuO/FeO composite with heterostructure. Owing to the significant differences in work functions, an internal electric field is built at the interface of heterojunction after the combination of CuO with FeO, which can reduce interface resistance and accelerate charge transfer. Interestingly, under the induction of electrostatic interaction provided by internal electric field, the CuO/FeO composite will form electron-rich and electron-deficient active zones.

The efficacy of the nanocomposite of manganese dioxide and diosgenin-incorporated chitosan (MnO/Dio@CS) was assessed by studying the photodegradation of two organic dyes, Acid Green (AG) and Malachite Green Oxalate (MGO), under visible light irradiation. In this study, biopolymer of chitosan-based films were synthesized, which were impregnated with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) at concentrations of 0, 1, 5 and 10 % w:v to obtain a film with microbicide properties and non-toxic for humans.
