Pursuing Criminal Charges Against Patients who are Reported as Having Assaulted Healthcare Professionals: Considerations.

Healthc Q

Masters of Human Resources Management, is a human resources manager with more than ten years of experience specializing in the Employee and Labour Relations Fields of Human Resources.

Published: February 2016

In two separate events in early 2014, a nurse was threatened with bodily harm by a patient in an inpatient psychiatry unit in Toronto. The nurses involved pursued criminal charges against the patients who made these threats. In response to questions regarding the procedure of criminally charging patients, and the supports available, a panel presentation was organized and presented for the inter-professional team. The key points from the panel are provided here as a resource for other organizations. This paper provides considerations learned from the Toronto Police Services, a Registered Nurse, a Nurse Manager, a Psychiatrist, a Bioethicist, a Legal representative and from Employee Relations.

More than 60 percent of US adults report that they had adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). For this study of 930,000 children born during the period 1999-2003, we used linked administrative, survey, and criminal justice data to measure the association between ACEs (parental death; separation; incarceration; or criminal charge for intimate partner violence, substance use disorder, or child sexual or nonsexual abuse) and socioeconomic disadvantages at ages 18-22 during 2017-21. After childhood socioeconomic status was controlled for, young adults with ACEs were more likely to have been charged with felonies, have become teenage parents, live in a household with poverty or housing assistance, be enrolled in Medicaid, and be employed, and were less likely to be enrolled in an educational institution.

Co-doped ZIF-8 as a water-stable visible light photocatalyst was prepared by using a one-pot, fast, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method. The band structure of ZIF-8 was tuned through the incorporation of different percentages of cobalt to attain an optimal band gap ( ) that enables the activation of ZIF-8 under visible light and minimizes the recombination of photogenerated charge carriers. A magnetic composite of Co-doped ZIF-8 was also synthesized to facilitate catalyst recycling and reusability through the application of an external magnetic field.

The current study presents the case of a young man with intellectual disability related to fetal alcohol syndrome, referred for forensic psychiatric examination of criminal liability following charges of armed robbery, and who was considered not criminally liable. In such cases, it is crucial to perform early diagnosis and rely on educational and developmental services and a supportive home environment to decrease complications such as substance use and criminal involvement.

Deciphering the Interfacial Li-Ion Migration Kinetics of Ni-Rich Cathodes in Sulfide-Based All-Solid-State Batteries.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

Nickel-rich layered oxide with high reversible capacity and high working potentials is a prevailing cathode for high-energy-density all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs). However, compared to the liquid battery system, ASSLBs suffer from poor Li-ion migration kinetics, severe side reactions, and undesired formation of space charge layers, which result in restricted capacity release and limited rate capability. In this work, we reveal that the capacity loss lies in the H2-H3 phase transition period, and we propose that the inconsistent interfacial Li-ion migration is the arch-criminal.
