Background: Breast cancer is commonly diagnosed at an advanced stage in Brazil.
Aim: Analyze the determinants of advanced staging in Brazilian women with breast cancer.
Methods: Crosssectional study, including women diagnosed with breast cancer in Brazil, between 2000 and 2009.
Results: A total of 59,317 women were included, 53.5% being classified as advanced stage (≥IIB). Younger age (18 to 49 years old) (OR=1.61 95% CI 1.51 to 1.72) or between 40 and 49 years old (OR=1.08 95% CI 1.03 to 1.14), having low educational level (OR=1.53 95% CI 1.48 to 1.58), living in less developed geographical regions (OR=1.27 95% CI 1.21 to 1.33), having invasive ductal carcinoma (OR=2.70 95% CI 2.56 to 2.84) and invasive lobular carcinoma (OR=2.63 95% CI 2.42 to 2.86) were associated with advanced breast cancer.
Conclusion: We conclude that future interventions should focus on these high risk groups.

The human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG) channel plays a critical role in the electrical activity of the heart, and its blockers can cause serious cardiotoxic effects. Thus, screening for hERG channel blockers is a crucial step in the drug development process. Many in silico models have been developed to predict hERG blockers, which can efficiently save time and resources.

Background: Neuroblastoma, a prevalent extracranial solid tumor in pediatric patients, demonstrates significant clinical heterogeneity, ranging from spontaneous regression to aggressive metastatic disease. Despite advances in treatment, high-risk neuroblastoma remains associated with poor survival. SLC1A5, a key glutamine transporter, plays a dual role in promoting tumor growth and immune modulation.

Background: Neuropilin-1 (NRP1) is a transmembrane protein involved in surface receptor complexes for a variety of extracellular signals. NRP1 expression in human cancers is associated with prominent angiogenesis and advanced progression stage. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying NRP1 activity in the tumor microenvironment remain unclear.

The Intraperitoneal Carboplatin for Ovarian Cancer (iPocc) trial demonstrated that intraperitoneal (IP) administration of carboplatin is more effective than intravenous (IV) administration for advanced ovarian cancer, especially in cases with large residual tumors, challenging previous assumptions that IP chemotherapy is only beneficial for small residual tumors. Additionally, the iPocc trial showed that IP chemotherapy has a comparable safety profile to IV chemotherapy, with the exception of port-related toxicities. This review summarizes the principles, development, and significance of IP chemotherapy and discusses its future potential in light of recent studies.

Gastric cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignant tumor of the digestive system that is often diagnosed at advanced stages owing to inconspicuous early symptoms and a lack of specific examination methods. Effective treatment of advanced stages remains challenging, emphasizing the need for new therapeutic targets. Metabolic reprogramming, a hallmark of tumors, plays a pivotal role in tumor progression, immune evasion, and immune surveillance.
