We performed a retrospective analysis of clinical and laboratory data over 5 years in a tertiary centre to assess clinical and microbiological characteristics of patients with Raoultella spp. infection. Raoultella spp. were deemed responsible for clinical infections in 57 patients (R. planticola, n = 32 and R. ornithinolytica, n = 25). The most prevalent diagnoses for R. planticola were cystitis (50%; n = 16) followed by bacteraemia and pneumonia (9.4%; n = 3); for R. ornithinolytica, cystitis (36%; n = 9) followed by pneumonia (24%; n = 6). Immunodeficiency was present in 18 patients (56.3%) with R. planticola and in 16 patients (64%) with R. ornithinolytica infection. Of these, 55.6% and 37.5% had diabetes and 27.8% and 18.% were solid organ transplant recipients, respectively. All isolates were sensitive to third-generation cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides. Mortality of infections with R. planticola (n = 5; 15.6%) was higher than for R. ornithinolytica (n = 2; 8.0%), but the difference was not statistically significant.

Background: This study aimed to explore the distribution of beta-lactamase genes in Enterobacteriaceae from human clinical samples.
Methods: We analyzed data from 83 countries through the Antimicrobial Testing Leadership and Surveillance program, spanning 2004 to 2021. We calculated the proportion of each β-lactamase gene across nine bacterial species and generated a heatmap for β-lactamase genes with a frequency of ≥ 1 % in at least one species.

Fresh produce is usually consumed raw or minimally processed, making it a potential vehicle for the transmission of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) microorganisms to humans. The objective of the study was to assess the occurrence of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)- and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E and CPE), respectively, in 118 fresh herbs and 101 bagged salads collected at retail level in Switzerland and to characterize the isolates' phenotypic and genotypic properties using culture-based methods and whole genome sequencing (WGS). Of the fresh herbs, 6/118 contained ESBL-E and 7/118 yielded CPE.

Background: In Kenya, diarrhoeal disease is the third leading cause of child mortality after malaria and pneumonia, accounting for nearly 100 deaths daily. We conducted a cross-sectional study in Mukuru informal settlements to determine the bacteria associated with diarrhea and their ASTs to provide data essential for implementing appropriate intervention measures.
Methods: Diarrheagenic children (≤ 5 years) were purposively recruited from outpatient clinics of Municipal City Council, Mukuru kwa Reuben, Medical Missionaries of Mary, and Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, Nairobi.
