Aim: To investigate additional factors contributing to the pathophysiology of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis and periodontitis beyond the systemic immune suppression caused by the chemotherapeutic agent 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU).

Methods: 5-Fluorouracil was topically delivered to the non-keratinized, rapidly proliferating junctional epithelium (JE) surrounding the dentition, and acts as an immunologic and functional barrier to bacterial ingression. Various techniques, including EdU incorporation, quantitative immunohistochemistry (qIHC), histology, enzymatic activity assays, and micro-computed tomographic (μCT) imaging, were employed to analyze the JE at multiple time points following topical 5-FU treatment.

Electronic address:

Stretch activation (SA), a delayed increase in force production following rapid muscle lengthening, is critical to the function of vertebrate cardiac muscle and insect asynchronous indirect flight muscle (IFM). SA enables or increases power generation in muscle types used in a cyclical manner. Recently, myosin isoform expression has been implicated as a mechanism for varying the amplitude of SA in some muscle types.

Article Synopsis
  • Theileria parasites lead to the transformation of bovine leukocytes, causing them to proliferate rapidly and evade cell death.
  • The study investigates mA RNA modifications in T. annulata-infected leukocytes, using sequencing and bioinformatics to analyze these methylation patterns.
  • Findings suggest that mA modifications correlate with leukocyte proliferation rates and may influence cell cycle dynamics, with HIF-1α identified as a potential regulator of these modifications, highlighting the importance of mRNA methylation in the interaction between the parasite and host cells.

Electronic address:

Rapid control of hemorrhage is vital in first-aid and surgery. As representative of emergency hemostatic materials, inorganic porous materials achieve rapid hemostasis through concentrating protein coagulation factors by water adsorption to accelerate the coagulation reaction process, however their efficacy is often limited by the insufficient contact of material with blood and the lack of blood clot strength. Herein, we report an ultrafast dispersing and in situ gelation sponge (SG/DB) based on anchoring interface effect for hemorrhage control using freeze drying method after mixing fish scale gel (SG) and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) pre-crystallized diatom biosilica (DB).

Introduction: More than half of diabetes patients are Asians, and their tolerance to antidiabetic drugs may differ from that of non-Asians. Oral semaglutide has recently gained attention for its advantages in glycemic and body weight control. However, its effects across different ethnic groups remain unknown.
