Published: January 2015

Aim: To analyze a variant of a combination of psychopathological (subdepressive) state with inflammatory diseases of non-specific infectious origin.

Material And Methods: The paper was based on the study of 45 patients, aged from 12 to 19 years, examined using psychopathological and follow-up methods. A detailed somatic examination was performed as well.

Results And Conclusion: Authors described a phenomenon of somatopsychic synergism as a variant of a combination of somatic pathology (adenoviral and coccus infections) with subclinical affective syndromes of cyclothymic and schizophrenic origin. This phenomenon is opposed to somatopsychic antagonism which is qualified as a specific form of masked subdepressive states predominantly of asthenic/dynamic structure.

Background: Poly (ADP-Ribose) polymerase inhibitors are approved for treatment of tumors with BRCA1/2 and other homologous recombination repair (HRR) mutations. However, clinical responses are often not durable and treatment may be detrimental in advanced cancer due to excessive toxicities. Thus we are seeking alternative therapeutics to enhance PARP-directed outcomes.

The increasing threat of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, which rapidly develops multidrug resistance and commonly colonizes wound surfaces, demands innovative strategies. Phage-encoded endolysins offer a dual-purpose approach as topical therapies for infectious skin wounds and synergistic agents to reduce high-dose antibiotic dependence. This study explores recombinant CHAPk (rCHAPk), efficiently synthesized within 3 h, displaying broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against 10 Gram-positive strains, including resistant variants, with rapid bactericidal kinetics.

Overcoming (X)-harboring tigecycline resistance: a study on the efficacy of tigecycline-apramycin combinations.

Front Microbiol

December 2024

Guangdong Laboratory for Lingnan Modern Agriculture, National Risk Assessment Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance of Animal Original Bacteria, College of Veterinary Medicine, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China.

Introduction: The emergence of the wide variety of novel tigecycline resistance (X) variants, including (X3), (X4), (X5), and (X6), has raised a serious threat to global public health and posed a significant challenge to the clinical treatment of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.

Methods: In this study, we evaluated the synergism of tigecycline combining with other antibiotics as a means of overcoming the (X)-mediated resistance in spp. Antibiotic synergistic efficacy was evaluated through chequerboard experiments, time-kill assays and dose-response curves.

Purpose Of Review: Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is an autosomal recessive disorder of hepatic glyoxylate metabolism leading to nephrolithiasis and kidney failure. PH1 is caused by mutations on the AGXT gene encoding alanine:glyoxylate aminotransferase (AGT). The AGXT gene has two haplotypes, the major (Ma) and the minor (mi) alleles.

Background: In the splice variant factor (F)V-Short, 702 residues are deleted from the B domain, resulting in exposure of an acid region (AR2; 1493-1537) that binds TFPIα. FV-Short and protein S serve as synergistic TFPIα cofactors in inhibition of FXa. In the preAR2 region, a hydrophobic patch PLVIVGL (1481-1487) is crucial for synergistic TFPIα-cofactor activity and assembly of FV-Short, TFPIα, and protein S.
