Inverse Pickering emulsions with droplet diameters between 180 and 450 nm, a narrow droplet size distribution, and an outstanding stability were prepared using a miniemulsion technique. Commercially available hydrophilic silica nanoparticles were used to stabilize the emulsions. They were hydrophobized in situ by the adsorption of various neutral polymeric surfactants. The influence of different parameters, such as kind and amount of surfactant as hydrophobizing agent, size and charge of the silica particles, and amount of water in the dispersed phase, as well as the kind of osmotic agent (sodium chloride and phosphate-buffered saline), on the emulsion characteristics was investigated. The systems were characterized by dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, cryo-scanning electron microscopy (cryo-SEM), thermogravimetric analysis, and semiquantitative attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy. Cryo-SEM shows that some silica particles are obviously rendered hydrophilic and form a three-dimensional network inside the droplets.

Objectives: Given the considerable discrepancy in the literature regarding dietary protein and glucose homeostasis, we examined the prospective association between protein intake (total, animal, plant) and risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus or impaired fasting glucose (IFG). We also examined whether these associations differed by sex, body weight, or other risk factors.
Methods: We included 1423 subjects, aged ≥ 30 years, in the Framingham Offspring Study cohort.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with greater risk and earlier onset of dementia. This study investigated whether later-life changes in subjective cognition and behavior - potential markers of AD - could be observed in cognitively unimpaired older persons with a history of suspected mild TBI (smTBI) earlier in life and whether changes in cognition and behavior mediated the link between smTBI and daily function.

High ambient heat can directly influence blood pressure (BP) through the vasodilation of the skin vasculature and indirectly by affecting urinary volume and electrolyte levels. Hypothesis: Poly-N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM)-based microgels have garnered significant interest as effective soft particulate stabilizers because of their deformability and functionality. However, the inherent hydrophilic nature of microgel restricts their potential use in stabilizing water-in-oil (W/O) Pickering emulsions. Employing diverse polar additives can improve the hydrophobicity of microgels, thus unlocking new possibilities in inverse Pickering emulsion formation and materials fabrication.

Background: Eggs are rich in bioactive compounds, including choline and carotenoids that may benefit cardiometabolic outcomes. However, little is known about their relationship with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Objectives: We investigated the association between intakes of eggs and selected egg-rich nutrients (choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin) and NAFLD risk and changes in liver fat over ∼6 y of follow-up in the Framingham Offspring and Third Generation cohorts.
