Isomers of the cage like dibridgehead diphosphine P((CH2)14)3P (1) are treated with Ph3PAu(2,6-C6H3(Trip)2) (2 equiv.; Trip = 2,4,6-C6H2(iPr)3). With out,out-1, workup gives out,out-1·(Au(2,6-C6H3(Trip)2))2 (46%), as confirmed by a crystal structure. With in,out-1, crystallization affords not in,out-1·(Au(2,6-C6H3(Trip)2))2, but rather an out,out isomer in which one of the (CH2)14 segments threads through the macrocycle formed by the other two. Implications for mechanisms of interconversion of in,out isomers are analyzed.

Accurate stacking engineering of MOF nanosheets as membranes for precise H sieving.

Nat Commun

December 2024

Beijing Key Laboratory for Membrane Materials and Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, China.

Two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic framework (MOF) nanosheet membranes hold promise for exact molecular transfer due to their structural diversity and well-defined in-plane nanochannels. However, achieving precise regulation of stacking modes between neighboring nanosheets in membrane applications and understanding its influence on separation performance remains unrevealed and challenging. Here, we propose a strategy for accurately controlling the stacking modes of MOF nanosheets via linker polarity regulation.

Synthesis of Imine-Phenoxy Ligated Palladium Complexes for Norbornene Homopolymerization.

Inorg Chem

December 2024

Polymer Science and Engineering Division, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Dr. Homi Bhabha Road, Pune 411008, India.

Metal complexes with tunable ligands play a crucial role in olefin polymerization and impart control over molecular weight, crystallinity, and stereoregularity. We report the single-step synthesis of imine-phenoxy ligands in excellent yields (81-93%). The identity of electronically tuned imine-phenoxy ligands was unambiguously ascertained by using a combination of spectroscopic and analytical methods.

Mechanistic Analysis of Peptide Affinity to Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes and Volatile Organic Compounds Using Chemiresistors.

Peptides, due to their diverse and controllable properties, are used as both liquid and gas phase recognition elements for both biological and chemical targets. While it is well understood how binding of a peptide to a biomolecule can be converted into a sensing event, there is not the same mechanistic level of understanding with regard to how peptides modulate the selectivity of semiconductor/conductor-based gas sensors. Notably, a rational, mechanistic study has not yet been performed to correlate peptide properties to the sensor response for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as a function of chemical properties.

The [1,2]-rearrangement of allylic ammonium ylides is traditionally observed as a competitive minor pathway alongside the thermally allowed [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. Concerted [1,2]-rearrangements are formally forbidden, with these processes believed to proceed through homolytic C-N bond fission of the ylide, followed by radical-radical recombination. The challenges associated with developing a catalytic enantioselective [1,2]-rearrangement of allylic ammonium ylides therefore lie in biasing the reaction pathway to favor the [1,2]-reaction product, alongside controlling a stereoselective radical-radical recombination event.

Nonenzymatic reactions, though critical in natural product biosynthesis, are significantly challenging to control. Adding 3% NaI to the culture medium of significantly increased pseurotin D () production and decreased pseurotin A () production. Previously, and were suggested to be produced via a nonenzymatic reaction, where the epoxide at C-10 undergoes S2 () or S2' () reactions.
