Incidence of Buxtonella sulcata was recorded as 20.9 % in bovines (n = 374) of R.S. Pura, Jammu with cattle showing higher infection rate (23.6 %) than the buffaloes (18.5 %). The infection was significantly (p < 0.0001) higher in young animals (33.1 %) than the adults (13.9 %). Animals with diarrhoeic faeces had a significantly higher (p < 0.0001) infection rate (38.5 %) than the animals with normal faeces (9.9 %), suggesting the influence of protozoan on the incidence of diarrhoeal symptoms in bovines.

The prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites (GIP) in cattle and buffaloes from different zones and climatic regions in India was determined by scientometrics. The GIP prevalence studies (64) described during 2004-2021 were retrieved from online databases, and offline literature and meta-analyses were conducted by meta package in R-Software. The GIP prevalence in India was 47% (95% level CI 41-54%, PI 12-85%) in cattle, 42% (95% level CI 35-50%, PI 9-84%) in buffaloes and 45% (95% level CI 40-51%, PI 12-84%) in cattle and buffaloes obtained from 40,884, 27,624 and 74,579 samples, respectively.

Domestic camels (Camelus bactrianus, the Bactrian camel; and Camelus dromedarius, the dromedary) are pseudo-ruminant herbivores kept as livestock in rural, inhospitable regions (cold deserts and dry steppes of Asia, arid to semi-arid regions of Africa, western and central Asia). Their close contact with humans makes them a potential reservoir for zoonotic parasite infections, as has been suggested for human balantidiasis. However, there is confusion about the ciliate species that infects camels: Infundibulorium cameli was originally described in dromedaries, but this name has almost never been used and most authors identified their findings as Balantioides coli and, to a lesser extent, Buxtonella sulcata, a cattle ciliate.

Sixty suspected protozoan oocysts were demonstrated from 260 fecal samples collected from water buffaloes aged one month to seven years old with clinical signs of diarrhea in four provinces in the Philippines after conventional methods of isolation, sporulation, morphological characteristics and Kinyoun Acid Fast Staining techniques. The recovered protozoan oocysts were subjected to molecular analysis. Amplification of DNA extracted from recovered Eimeria oocysts using universal primers for the ITS-1 region of 18S rRNA revealed PCR products with 348 bp size demonstrated by samples collected from Benguet, La Union and Nueva Ecija provinces in the Philippines while DNA extracted from oocysts of suspected Cryptosporidium spp.
