The process of angiogenesis is a vital step towards the formation of malignant tumors. Anti-angiogenic peptides are therefore promising candidates in the treatment of cancer. In this study, we have collected anti-angiogenic peptides from the literature and analyzed the residue preference in these peptides. Residues like Cys, Pro, Ser, Arg, Trp, Thr and Gly are preferred while Ala, Asp, Ile, Leu, Val and Phe are not preferred in these peptides. There is a positional preference of Ser, Pro, Trp and Cys in the N terminal region and Cys, Gly and Arg in the C terminal region of anti-angiogenic peptides. Motif analysis suggests the motifs "CG-G", "TC", "SC", "SP-S", etc., which are highly prominent in anti-angiogenic peptides. Based on the primary analysis, we developed prediction models using different machine learning based methods. The maximum accuracy and MCC for amino acid composition based model is 80.9% and 0.62 respectively. The performance of the models on independent dataset is also reasonable. Based on the above study, we have developed a user-friendly web server named "AntiAngioPred" for the prediction of anti-angiogenic peptides. AntiAngioPred web server is freely accessible at http://clri.res.in/subramanian/tools/antiangiopred/index.html (mirror site: http://crdd.osdd.net/raghava/antiangiopred/).

Introduction: The critical role played by vascular dysfunction and ineffective angiogenesis in the pathophysiology of systemic sclerosis (SSc) suggests that circulating biomarkers reflecting these alterations may be useful in the clinical evaluation of this patient group. We sought to address this issue by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies investigating a such candidate biomarker, endostatin, an endogenous glycoprotein exerting anti-angiogenic effects, in SSc patients and healthy controls.

Methods: A literature search was conducted in the electronic databases Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus from inception to 27 May 2024.

The development of efficient platforms for the evaluation of anti-angiogenic agents is critical in advancing cancer therapeutics. In this study, we exploited an ultrabright semiconducting polymer dots (Pdots) integrating with a three-dimensional (3D) near-infrared-II (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging system designed to assess the efficacy of potent anti-angiogenic agents PX-478 and BPR0C261 in an oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) tumour model, which depends on angiogenesis for dissemination. PX-478, a hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) inhibitor, and BPR0C261, a microtubule-disrupting agent, were administrated into tumour-bearing mice established using murine MTCQ1 tongue cancer cells through intraperitoneal injection and oral gavage, respectively.

Nowadays, the use of monoclonal antibodies to target angiogenic signalling pathways is common, but, unfortunately, the clinical activity of these agents is limited. Thus, the development of approaches targeting multiple pathways for anti-angiogenic effect will lead to increase the clinical benefit. For this purpose, oleuropein, hesperidin, piperine, proanthocyanidins and retinoic acid, which have previously been proven to be bioactive components, anti-angiogenic performances were experimentally tested in retinal pigment epithelial cells.

Purpose: Antiangiogenesis therapy has become a hot field in cancer research. Given that tumor blood vessels often express specific markers related to angiogenesis, the study of these heterogeneous molecules in different tumor vessels holds promise for advancing anti-angiogenic therapy. Previously using phage display technology, we identified a targeting peptide named GX1 homing to gastric cancer vessels for the first time.

Purpose: This review explores the role of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in retinal degenerative and vascular disorders and assesses its potential both as an adjunct to established vascular endothelial growth factor inhibiting treatments for retinal vascular diseases and as a neuroprotective therapeutic agent.

Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, focusing on the neuroprotective and anti-angiogenic properties of PEDF. The review evaluated its effects on retinal health, its dysregulation in ocular disorders, and its therapeutic application in preclinical models.
