CeO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by using a precipitation method. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images, X-ray diffraction patterns, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy spectra, and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy spectra showed that the formed samples were CeO2 polycrystalline nanoparticles. Inverted organic solar cells with a structure of indium-tin-oxide/CeO2/poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT):[6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM)/MoO3/Ag were fabricated. Current density-voltage results showed that the power conversion efficiency of the device of the fabricated inverted OPV cells with a CeO2 interlayer between the P3HT:PCBM and the cathode was 0.39% larger than that without a CeO2 interlayer.

Enhancing photocatalytic HO production with S-type heterojunctions of CeO coupled N-vacancy-rich carbon nitride.

Artificial photosynthesis for HO production through O reduction is a sustainable and cost-effective technology for the scientific and industrial communities. Metal-free polymeric carbon nitride (CN) is a promising visible-light responsive semiconductive material for photocatalytic HO production. However, its inherently disordered and amorphous structure limits its performance improvement due to high photogenerated carrier complexation and sluggish interlayer charge transfer.

Utilizing rare earth doped ceria in solid oxide cells (SOCs) engineering is indeed a strategy aimed at enhancing the electrochemical devices' durability and activity. Particularly, Gd-doped ceria (GDC) is actively used for barrier layer and catalytic additives in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). In this study, experiments are conducted with La-doped CeO (LDC), in which the Ce sites are predominantly occupied by La, to prevent the formation of the Ce-Zr solid solution.

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) hold promise as the next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their ultra-high theoretical capacity and remarkable cost-efficiency. However, these batteries suffer from the serious shuttle effect, challenging their practical application. To address this challenge, we have developed a unique interlayer (HCON@CNWF) composed of hollow cerium oxide nanorods (CeO) anchored to carbonized non-woven viscose fabric (CNWF), utilizing a straightforward template method.

In ferroelectric and multiferroic-based devices, it is often necessary to grow thicker films for enhanced properties. For certain phases that rely on substrate strain for growth, such thicker film growths beyond the typical thin film regime could be challenging. As an example, the BiFeMnO (BFMO) Aurivillius supercell (SC) phase possesses highly desirable multiferroic (, ferromagnetic and ferroelectric) properties and a unique layered structure but relies heavily on substrate strain.

Rare earth elements and graphene composites exhibit better catalytic properties in energy storage materials. The introduction of rare earth oxide and graphene composites as functional layers into the separator to seal the "shuttle effect" formed by polysulfides during the discharge process has proven to be effective. In this study, we prepared CeO/graphene composites (labeled as CeG) by intercalation exfoliation and in situ electrodeposition methods simultaneously, in which CeO was encapsulated in large folds of graphene, which exhibited good defect levels (/ < 1) and its intrinsically superior physical structure acted as a shielding layer to hinder the shuttle of polysulfides, improving the cycling stability and rate of cell performance.
